šŸ”¶ Vokyl Erupts

How does balanced enhance the sound of the Erupts with your cable? Comparison between tubes and solid state?

Way more power. The bass was way better when they were balanced. The headphones were shaking my head during a very bassy song. When they werenā€™t balanced I had to go past 12 oā€™clock on the 789 and the bass was lacking. I like them both on solid state and tubes, but I like them a little bit more on tubes.

Do those cables work on the stock Erupts without rewiring?

My erupts are in stock configuration.

Yes, they work in stock configuration as I wrote already: ā€œI have the Vokyl Erupts with the original wiringā€¦ā€.
I have used several Sol Republic cables by now and they all fit and all work as described.

Got the cable that @nguyendex recommended and it works on unmodded Erupts. Just a warning the cable is very short, much shorter than the cable that comes with. So keep that in mind if you plug your Erupts into the back of your PC or if youre dac/amp are on the far side of your desk like mine is.

I said I would give a update a month ago and itā€™s been almost 2 months lol! I still would say they a little behind the m570 in quality. Bigger soundstage than the fidelio x2hrā€™s and good imaging. Z reviews mentioned the detail being great and I agree, itā€™s up their with the Sundara and m570.

Spent about half a month with these, and I canā€™t stop listening to them. Donā€™t bother with the solid pads, theyā€™re so dark everything sounds terrible. The vented pads are good, but I really feel the Dekoni Elite Velours are perfect, at least sound-wise. Iā€™m selling all my other headphones.

Looking at their website, which pads specifically did you purchase?

The Beyerdynamic ones.

Awesome, thanks!

I tried liking these, but I found them to be very uncomfortable and I didnā€™t like the overall sound quality compared to the Takstar HF-580 or Monolith m570. Was very unhappy with the crowdfunding campaign and the insane delays and lack of regular communication from the company, so that may have colored my reaction somewhat. So I sold them at a slight loss and moved on to other things.

Hi everyone, received my Erupts, and overall a bit disappointed in how they sound. I do like the mic cable though, does anyone know if itā€™s possible to use it on a different pair of headphones, for instance the focal Elex?

I recently received mine. My take is very positive. I think Vokyl delivered. I think the sound is smooth and spacious. No ā€œouchā€ like the one YouTube review alledges. They may not be as comfortable as my Nighthawks, but no worse than my Sennheisers which I have no issues with long-term listening. I like the look and the build does bring a pride of ownership component something like the HD650 doesnā€™t match.

I agree. Iā€™ve been daily driving them since September and like them a lot. I do think the headband could be tweaked a bit to improve things though (more robust, add some clamp). You should try out these pads! They widen them a bit and donā€™t sound too drastically different in frequencies (maybe alter the highs a bit and bring up the bass a tad, havenā€™t done a comparison) and add a bit of clamp. One of the slight annoyances with the standard fenestrated pads are that they have a tendancy to spin around the cups some if you donā€™t take them off a certain way, and the openings are ovals. The pads I linked go on just a little looser but have a seams at the bottom to line up with the jacks and have a circle opening, so it doesnā€™t matter as much whether they spin. Will be interesting to see if some mods show up for messing with the inside of the cups. Iā€™m curious if Philips will step up their game when the Fidelio X3ā€™s come out. Hopefully they keep the crazy soundstage and refine pretty much everything else LOL

Funny enough, the original pads Vokyl said they were using were Dekoni, so itā€™s either the Beyerdynamic ones you just listed or the AKG ones based off of looks alone. Unless they have Dekoni design a pad specifically for them, but I doubt that is the case.

Not impressed from what Iā€™ve heard of them after a couple hours. I donā€™t have the best to compare to or the experience but my Tin T2s produce a much more neutral and detailed sound that is superior in all but soundstage. In comparison to standard headphones Iā€™ve tried these seem to remove all the mids as others have said. I will wait to see what Z has to say and wait for a consensus on aftermarket pads (dekoni sheepskin or velour itā€™s seems?) As it seems like even just pulling the cups a bit off my head seems to improve it somewhat. Iā€™d love to hear a bit more from people who love them as their sound to me is really far from anything I would call neutral.

Second the Dekoni Beyer fenestrated sheepskin pads. The stock non-vented pads are rubbish. The stock vented pads are better but the Dekonis really improve the upper registers. When I first heard these stock I wasnā€™t disappointed because I had read and watched the reviews, but people werenā€™t lying, they arenā€™t great. One of the reviews mentioned the Dekoni pads so I bought them before I received my Vokyls. I figured if everyone was saying the same thing it was worth it to have some options on standby. Iā€™ve tried various pads, solid, vented, and velour. So far, these Dekoniā€™s sound the best to me. They make this headphone enjoyable.

Iā€™m looking forward to seeing if anyone else finds any other pads, or mods that improve these because, all in all, I really like them. Build quality is excellent. They didnā€™t really compromise on the build of the headphones but really did on the pads, and apparently the cable (I got mine wired standard so I didnā€™t receive the stock cable).

So I just emailed the Vokyl team and they confirmed they used the Beyerdynamic DT series fenestrated sheep skin pads on the pre production model of the Erupts. Aka, the model Z reviews and most other reviewers had made their initial impressions and reviews on. If that helps anyone or if anyone was curious.

Thanks for the info. I will be ordering the sheepskins and Iā€™ll relay my opinion once they have arrived. Having to buy a microphone, cable and pads to make these what I expected is definitely raising the price though lol.
