šŸ”¶ Vokyl Erupts

What do you consider as ā€œperformanceā€? You might get some benefits from a good DAC/amp but not sure if itā€™s worth the investment for just the Vokyls.

I compared them on my phone and just into the back of my mobo, and the performance is slightly noticeable. Having them into my mobo just livens them up a bit. I guess what Iā€™m asking is will an amp do the same, and allow me to have the volume a bit louder if I need it. By performance I just mean does it give them more juice (liven them up), pump the lows and the highs a bit more. Iā€™m pretty unfamiliar with the exact terminology lol

In theory, an entry-level amp/dac should drive it better than your mobo and will probably have a lower noise floor too. As for how that would translate in sound quality, Iā€™m not sure. My guess is that it will improve subtly, but if youā€™re not a fan of the current sound signature then donā€™t expect it to improve dramatically.

Try an EQ, I used the E1DA power DAC v2 with them and they took really nicely the EQ. Tons of low end if you boost it.

Disclaimer: I do not recommend the Power DAC for a casual user. It has its quirks.

Thanks for the replies guys! After doing a bit of looking around i found this combo.

Would this pair well with the erupts? All I will need is a splitter to go with it? Iā€™m thinking about grabbing the the zmf pads as well since it seems they produce a sound signature a bit more akin to my liking.

Fulla 3 is a solid option.

@f1uxuate Well, I would actually go for something like the new model of the Magni Heresy instead, as the Fulla 3 is a bit overpriced, and there is much better out there if you just bump your budget up slightly.

Did anyone else try those perforated lambskin ZMF Ori pads on the Erupts? I really need more opinions before I spend so much on pads

I canā€™t comment on the audio changes but first impressions of fit and comfort are great. The seal and fit on of the ZMF Ori pads are much better (imo) than the Dekoni pads (I had these before returning them). The pads actually breathe unlike the stock perforated pads that come with the headphones. The added thickness is nice and adds some space from the drivers. Overall initial impressions are great.

Just now stumbled upon these. Wanted to throw a post on here asking if anyone has sat with these for some time and ask how they compare to others. How are they.

These are my main cans for gaming at the moment. Compared to the Fidelio X2 and HE4XX, the Erupt have significantly better imaging. Soundstage is similar across all three, with the Erupt and X2 edging out the HE4XX by a bit. This is with the stock perforated pads. The solid pads sound absolutely terrible to me.

For music, the perforated pads just donā€™t cut it. There is almost no airiness and the bass, while extending pretty deep, bleeds into the mids and sounds muddy. The solid pads sound like this but with twice as much midbass and even more bleeding into the mids.

If you want to do music AND gaming on these, you gotta pad roll. I got the Dekoni Fenestrated pads, and they clean up that bloat and bring some sparkle at the expense of bass volume. Bass still extends low. The overall signature ends up being a rather pleasing neutral-ish dark. Surprisingly, they respond very well to EQ.

Canā€™t disagree with any of this. I personally find that these, with the Dekoni fenestrated sheepskin pads, are a very enjoyable listen. They remind me very much of my Elex but not as dynamic, which can actually be a good thing. The Elex can be so dynamic and punchy that Iā€™m listening with my hand on the volume knob to smooth out the peaks. These donā€™t have quite the level of detail as the Elex but have a nice wide soundstage, good detail retrieval, and imaging. I have the Elex, HE400i, HD6xx, HD58x, M560, and several others. I probably switch between the Elex, Erupts, and the HE400i more than any of the rest of my collection. Theyā€™re very good.

I tried these for my AD700x/AD900x, and they are stiff & scratchy, unlike how nice & soft they look/looked in the advertisement for them when originally released. Are yours quite soft, or more stiff & scratchy?

Mine havenā€™t arrived yet - What pads and/or cable(no mic, 3.5mm) should I order so that they sound and feel as good as the original Prototype?

ā€¦and where are all the full, detailed reviews on this thing?

No, they are definitely not the most supple leather and are not the softest foam. I tried some other softer vented pads but the dekonis have the best impact on the sound so far, to my ear. I suppose you could use some leather treatment to soften them up.

Hmm, so I messaged vokyl about those of us who would want to order their product but were concerned on no return policies and the product still being in early stages. They got back to me pretty promptly stating.

ā€œWe do not have any set policies for our future web sales, but will make it very public when we have that figured out. We plan on completing our pre-sales this summer.ā€

Guess I will keep this on watch till after pre-sales to see if they change policies or anything to do with the headphone itself since itā€™s still in pre-sales and preordering.

My (original) order # is high 900ā€™s, and the tracker estimation currently says July 5. If I check tomorrow, it will probably say July 6. Interesting to note, my order # has apparently changed to low 1700ā€™s for some reason.

Hereā€™s one:

The order tracker is definitely a joke, and you canā€™t count on their word to be accurate either. Iā€™m in the 900s and my expectation is that Iā€™ll see mine before next year, but thatā€™s as high as my hopes go.
