I watched that and re bought Gorillaz Demon Days.
The rest of todays listening -
Dire Straits - Making Movies (does the production on this sound bad or is it me?)
The Sundays - Reading, Writing and Arithmetic (I endlessly come back to this but hardly ever listen to the two follow up albums).
Skylar Gudasz - COUNTRY
In need of some inner piece today. This always helps
Ahhh, very soothing for my concussed brain. Sigh…
I’ve seen this footage hundreds of times but it never gets old for me….
Buddy Rich was technically better than Jene Krupa but never matched his naturally occurring hip ,cool swing vibe…. Krupa had “ cool” down pat….imho…
I was watching Buddy Rich vids on YT the other day. The speed and control was incredible even when he was getting on in age.
Buddy was definitely a superior drummer to Gene but Gene seemed to have a more hip swinging vibe to his playing…To me, both were great…
Speaking of drummers…. Here’s Rush’s new drummer….She kinda reminds me of a female Gavin Harrison although unique in her own way….
Some of my favorites are from Anika and Nevell and their session at Little Big Beat Studios, really showcased her well.
I see the Gavin Harrison comparison for sure but she really accentuates the syncopation combined with the quick timing change ups, somewhat unique in that - tho now she will be emulated a whole lot more I’m sure. I hope to be able to see a Rush show with her on the kit.
She is very good, no doubt. I was surprised when I heard about a Rush “reunion”. I think I will pass on going to a show, though. I have my memories of the band and my 19 show experiences. I think for me, that is the way I want to think of and remember the band. I have serious doubts about Geddy’s singing abilities today. That said, if/when any new material comes out, I will check it out for sure.
Todays albums-
The Pogues “Rum, Sodomy and the Lash”. Hard to pick between this and “Grace of God” which is grander and more polished. This is more raw but has some of Shane MacGowan’s best stuff, particularly if you get the reissue with the “Poguetry in Motion” songs. Demo of “Fairytale of New York” was done for the album with Cait O’Riordan on vocals just before she left the band.
Peter Gabriel 3rd album. His albums are really patchy but this is maybe the best solo.
The Fall “Extricate”. Favourite Fall album.
Substak “A Line Dissolving”. Ambient. This came out through Neotantra label who find and publish a lot of this stuff. Sadly since the sudden death of one of the labels founders they’ve hit financial problems. The labels back catalogue is available for £1 an album on Bandcamp for a few days as they try to raise funds. Well worth supporting.
Kickass cover, so powerful ![]()
New single, with Elton John. Sam Fender is in the rare air right now where he can do no wrong. Brilliant.
Can’t go wrong with anything Jonny composes … ![]()
