With that violent of a crash, injury and prognosis, I am happy you are here to enjoy this hobby together  Mountain biking, I have had small crashes. Most of the riding I do is canyon single trail, nothing crazy and usually not a lot of speed involved… I also road bike for fitness and pleasure… I was a commuter for ten years… I have stories… This is where my most scary moment was. Morning commute, one section of my route is a long sweeping downhill lined with Eucalyptus trees… this was the morning after a windy night… Usually I know to get out of the bike lane and into the road after a night like that, but this morning, maybe I didn’t have enough coffee… I usually got up to speeds around 40 MPH on this hill… still dark… next thing in know I am launched over the handlebars, still clipped into the pedals bringing the bike with me… face plant as well as front of helmet. Ended going over twice, the bike breaking away from clips on second one. I was very lucky… no traffic early in the morning, I ended up in the middle of the road. Injury wise… I was definitely dazed , broken collar bone and lots of road rash everywhere… feeling very fortunate. Hemet saved me most likely. When I got my wits about me, I walked the bike back home… on the way back I saw what it was I hit… It was about a 2 to 3 inch diameter Eucalyptus tree branch laying across the bike lane.

I didn’t break anything in my crash…well, mebe my nose, but it’s not crooked, just easy to get nosebleeds since the accident. I had a lot of soft tissue damage, my back and shoulder muscles / tendon’s are all sorts of messed up, but I’m fully mobile, no balance / equilibrium issues that often follow something like this. I was quite the sight immediately following though. the swelling was so bad that I was unrecognizable. mum couldn’t bring herself to take any photo’s, but everyone said my head was purple and the size of a basketball. you couldn’t see my eyes, ears or nose.

I did ride again…but after catching myself flying down a hill at 90kph and barely making a red light stop where I had hundreds of meters to slow down, I quit. first thought when I see a hill is ‘how fast can I go’ though…that hasn’t changed!

Hobbies are extremely limited since I’m in a non free country (currently in Japan).
US State side was all mixed between the following
Firearms - target - trap- skeet - reloading - collecting
Computers - gaming - optimizing / building
Networking - switches - routers - access points
Automobile - rebuilding engines- trans - diffs - electrical - body
Motorcycle - MSF certified instructor - repair - rebuild - rider. Also have a ok collection of different motorcycles (sold a couple before putting the rest in storage)
Welding - Tig - mig - stick
Electronics - yes. Been a maintainer, certified project engineer and project manger for combined 20 years…

PC-based sim racing would be my primary other hobby. Just offline against the AI though. I kind of get more enjoyment out of simply driving the various cars than I do out of the competition aspect of racing.

I do a bit of “simracing” offline too, as the competition gets in the way of driving the car :stuck_out_tongue: Not particularly fast though… Automobilista2 and the various “formula classic/retro” cars are my current go-to sim at the moment. Love the sensation of speed Automobilista 2 gives in VR, and it runs smoothly on my rather old i7-3770k/1070gtx gaming box…

Anybody follow F1?

I really want to get back into microscopy, being I can’t do much in the way of astronomy here. got a line on a late model American Optical Series 10 trinocular plan-achro with phase contrast for about $750 CAD.

What do you do with that microscope? Do you take pictures or just look at things?

One of my other hobbies is DJing. That’s a dark/industrial techno set.

I look at things…expand my knowledge and world.

and I want to do something called stereo photography, where I use all three optical paths and create photo’s that look 3D.

What sort of things do you look at?

Oh, another person with seldom used astronomy gear. :slightly_smiling_face:

I have a 10” Dob and three refractors that I haven’t used in probably close to a decade. The only exception being the 2017 eclipse when I set up one of the refractors with a solar filter.

well…I can’t use them because where I live is perennially raining or just cloud covered. so I will turn to something I can do indoors.

plus my grandkids are being homeschooled, so I can ejumicate them while I explore the micro-verse!
