Got myself a Darkvoice 336se excited to try a tube amp for the first time. I also got myself a BTR5 for my mobile needs.
Nice the DV is a pretty sweet amp curious to hear your thoughts
I have a set of these that came with m S9. I use them for my conference calls since they are the one thing I have with a mic. Never really thought to listen to music with them. I’ll have to give them a fair shake today and see what they sound like for something besides Google meetings.
Mine died sadly lol. The right ear was more quiet than the left and would go in and out. Personally I found the treble extremely harsh to my ears, but for others they probably wouldn’t have the same problem. I did take the tips they came with to use on other things, really good wide opening tips, super small and comfy.
I’m not the most sensitive when it come to treble fortunately enough a d generally not picky with my gear as long as it doesn’t offend me too much. They are tuned by akg which is owned by Harman so the Harman shout is a bit there
IT HAS ARRIVEDDDD
Smelled a little weird out of the box. Threw some old english on the cups, cleaned the headband, and switched the pads. Turns out the cowhide headstrap I bought from ZMF for a replacement only has 1 hole and 1 screw on each side as opposed to the 2 this requires. RIP, so I’ll just use what came with.
Initial impressions. I like the sound. The mids sound a tiny bit recessed to me. Bass is smexy. Treble is nice and clear. Detail is easy to retrieve. Sounds crystalline but a tiny bit muddy at times to my ears (if that makes any sense at all)(I probably just have to adjust to the sound). Dynamics are soooooo much better than my open backs rn. Isolation feels on par with 770s (so not super great). Imaging and separation are stelllllar. Soundstage feels very open for a closed back. Comfort is ridiculously good, but I can’t really headbang anymore and have them feel like they’re gonna stay on my head lol. Gonna let em break in a bunch before I make any final judgements though.
Am a very happy boi
Edit : I can hear audio equipment hiss (barely audible) in a lot of recordings. Took me a while to verify it was the tracks and not a piece of my gear. This is new. Also cymbals are super splashy, but in what I would say is almost the right way. Is very interesting.
There is some kind of tuning thing going on that occasionally doesn’t mesh well with certain tracks. It’s subtle enough to be inaudible most of the time, but once in a while something will sound slightly off. It’s like there’s an intentional rolloff or de-emphasis in a narrow band that usually helps certain elements of a track pop, but once in a while it steps on something important. I could believe that’s what you’re describing.
Not sure if it’s your cup of tea, but my first track on my Eikons was “Stay (Drop the Poptart Edit)” by deadmau5 ft. Colleen D’agostino.
I love what Eikons do with vocals, and this track has some intimate vocals anchored by a very nice punchy bass (takes about 3 minutes to build up).
The only way I can describe this track on these headphones is tasty. Hits all the right parts about these cans.
Yep. After thinking about it more and listening some more, it feels as if that’s what I’m hearing. It’s not a deal breaker by any means, but is ever so slightly frustrating lol. At the same time, the rest of the good points about the headphone more than make up for that. If this is it’s one true flaw, I’ll be a happy boi.
Yea. I reallllllly like the way it treats the bass guitar. Listening to Vulfpeck, RHCP, Victor Wooten, and Jaco Pastorious is a treat.
These feel like the perfect cans for reggae right now imo. I’m just digging the whole presentation.
Just got Dekoni tips for the Bl-03. Not a fan. Takes out all the air from the sound I feel.
I look at it more like “character.” I have Stellias to feed my craving for detail and what feels like a more accurate presentation overall, but even they can’t keep up with the supernatural magic that the Eikons deliver with the right kind of music. That not every track is completely hypnotic is forgivable, lol.
Yup! I like Eikons for stuff like blues, folk, and bluegrass, too. A lot of that stuff combines soulful vocals with relatively uncomplicated compositions featuring natural instruments, and Eikons really help those types of tracks to shine spectacularly.
Glad you’re enjoying them (and glad you liked that deadmau5 track). I had to pull mine out this morning to play along.
Exactly. Still damn fucking enjoyable. And it’s only if I really listen for it, so if I just have these on doing work it won’t pull me out of the music.
Yes. Exactly. I’m having trouble deciding what to listen to right now, cause too much of my stuff is in those genres.
Down Along the Dixie Line by Punch Brothers on TIDAL = First time I’ve really been able to pick out all the shit in the track. Is quite nice.
Jambalaya (On The Bayou) (Album Version) by Harry Connick, Jr. on TIDAL = Same here. The sub bass / bass makes for such a nice contrast. Also the way these handle male vocals and forward horns.
Whine & Kotch by J Capri on TIDAL = That sub bass though. Also this song is so fucking nsfw, but the groove is worth it imo.
https://tidal.com/browse/track/89629345 = Male. vocals.
https://tidal.com/browse/track/51157880 = Nobody likes uileann pipes, but this headphone really does well by them. Not too piercing. You can also hear all of the stuff going on in the track and really pull it out. That slide guitar though.
Sidenote, imo, if you want a good test of whether a headphone’s treble is piercing. Throw Uileann pipes (or other pipe variants) on and see if they’re tolerable. I can’t fucking stand it on my 990s (and I love uileann pipes in person, though they’re super rare at sessions in the US) or my Sundaras, but on the PM-50s and Eikons they sound pretty reasonable.
Okay I’m done hijacking the thread.
bought a few sets of the new symbio foams https://symbioeartips.com/termek/symbio-f-3pairs/
heard some good things about these foamies, hoping to replace my complys.
Shuoer Tapes. Hopefully Linsoul sends me two again.
So I’m thinking my collection will be:
- BL-03
- These
- Moondrop Starfield
- Tin P1
Recon I’ll cover most of the spectrum?
After a weeklong shopping spree, the first shipment has arrived! They may not look like much, but once the gear they go with shows up… What on earth could I be doing with these? Stay tuned…
The best tips for sound imo on the BL-03 I have tried are the Final Audio E tips. And you don’t need an o-ring for them because they grip on so well and don’t slip.
Im curious about how long they last
I will let you know as soon as it arrives! I plan on pairing them with the HD 660s.
