Finally got the 5998 Pair I was waiting for, here’s a pic of one, they both look identical and are in excellent condition with the red Tung-Sol Logo and other markings in near perfect condition.
Mind the electrical tape though, the bases are a bit loose, presumably from being old, doesn’t affect the actual vacuum seal though and the heaters light up without a hitch, kinda learned that using electrical tape on the base tends to help if they have any noise, learned that from dealing with noisy Driver tubes.
They cancelled my Holidays because of the Corona Virus. I got drunk and frustrated last night an ordered new Speakers. My Super Harbeth Super HL5 s got me hooked on the BBC stuff.
I’ve been itching to add some Grado sound to my collection and stumbled across an early pair of these GS1000i’s, I’ve seen them called the “Red Eye” version. I was happy with my Fed-ex driver today and treated her to some NON Covid-19 infected snacks before she went on her way.
These seem to be a love or hate item for many folks. Not crazy about the cable, and I will order some new pads, (Btw. which pads do I get for these and should i stick to the original Grado or aftermarket?) BUT I enjoy the sound very much. light and airy to me, w/ great midrange and very detailed. I’m VERY pleased!
That cable is the work of Satan! It will just continue to piss you off more and more the longer you own them.
The pad answer is Beautiful Audio in New Zealand. https://www.beautifulaudio.biz/products
I bought the hybrids for my GH2s. They are insanely comfortable and I can wear them all day long and forget they are even on. Not cheap, but if youre up in the GS series money is not an issue anyway.
I feel for you. Last night was my first day of vacation and my hotel calls and says they’re shutting down. Now I have to spend my vacation at home.
Now that I have Harbeth in the living room, I had to get some BBC drugs for the vinyl setup in the home office. During the test listening the LS6 convinced me again today. The LS6f seems to be a misconstruction, because it sounds much worse than the LS6. The Harbeth M30.1 was not convincing and the Graham just felt better. Mabe the M30.1 just sound like a worse Super HL5 to me.
Graham LS5/9 are really good but the LS6 have their own charm and are much more affordable. All in all, I would say that Harbeth is more suited for fun sound in a room and Grahams like near-field with a neutral studio monitor sound. Now I realy need to step up my amplifier Game.
I have looked at that, but I am chicken. While I LOVE these headphones, if I ever put on my big boy pants and try out a GS3000e, I am afraid I will be hooked. And that would require selling my little beauties and I am guessing that modded GH2’s sell for noticably less than stock GH2’s.
Ether CX came in! Ordered, 3/12 and arrived 3/16. New Drop record from purchased to shipped. Thank you @ZeosPantera or the $100 off coupon. Now to start the 200 hour + burn in before forming an opinion before even messing with tuning. Initial, neat and a wonderful slight contrast to the LCD X.
