I have built some Grado style headphones in the past. Personally, I would go with the Nhoord Red Drivers.

Absolutely. Just pulled out the Auteurs to listen to some Zero 7:

Productivity temporarily ground to a halt, lol.

I appreciate the input, I was going back and forth between the Symphony and the Nhoord. I had read that the Nhoord had the best rounded sound signature versus some of the other aftermarket drivers. If you had to compare the sound signature to a headphone which headphone do you think the Nhoord closely resembles?

It really is it’s own sound. If I compared it to a non modded Grado sr80e, I would say it has better bass extension. It also trims the peak in the upper mids significantly and the treble is a lot smoother but still well extended and north of neutral. It is the better all rounder to the symphones driver, IMO.

If you are going with wood cups, I’d also recommend Mahogany or Walnut.

Also, the L cush pads are the way to go. The G cush give them a hollow V shaped sound. I recommend the generic earzonk L cush pads.

HD800S finally came in along with the custom cables from Impact Audio. Its crazy what the difference in tuning will do to the HD800S. I enjoy it much more over the HD800. Already put in an order for the SuperDupontResonator mod to get the 800 to match the 800S

currently having my OCD wired up wondering if i should keep the 58X or should i buy a 4XX instead because i like my stuff brighter than i thought (compared to the benchmark m50s), and the 58x is slightly lower pitched than i thought and i had an issue of “i think i can only hear 12Khz” because of the lowered highs

Innuos Zenith MK3 music server arrived today. Now I just need to slowly purchase music I enjoy. The desktop is pretty much complete, very pleased with everything, wish it didn’t all cost so much but I did the best I could.

Did you get it new or off headfi?

The HD800 I bought used for about $800. The HD800S I bought brand new from an authorized dealer from eBay. It was a little over $1500 after taxes
