This is really, really interesting.

Like I still think they are good/great headphones. If I heard them when I purchased my 58x and coming off a set of Grado’s I would probably have had that “shit my pants” reaction.
I guess I just had the idea in my head that they resolve/separate/image like kings but I can probably get the same effect if not better as what I am hearing (now at least) with some sort of headphone in my collection.
well, doesn’t hurt to let them warm up as instructed. the 207’s I bought were used, so this process was already done as they sounded phenomenal, just lacking in bass.
I wouldn’t for a few days. M0N would know but the charge time from nothing is a little insane from what I’ve read on other places online. It’s the price you pay for E-field drivers instead of B-field drivers.
Ha! I managed to just squeeze these past the shutdown in New Zealand
These were pricey but ohhhh so nice They are first and foremost comfortable for my ears, not that I found the stock Grado pads bad, but these are better. I’ve not had a chance to hear the sound differences, but even if i can’t detect any, which i doubt, I’ll be damned if they don’t look super sexy.

I’ve been eyeing those pads for my HF3. Let us know how they sound on your Grados.
I used to own a Grado sr80e that I modified and I bought the Merino Wool Beautiful Audio pads. They were leaps and bounds better in both comfort and sound. I highly recommend them.
They are AWESOMELY comfortable! Made my Grado GH2’s all day headphones
@ShaneD Did they change the GH2 sound much? I’m not the biggest Grado fan in the world, but I liked the GH3 and GH4 both.
Not at all, IMO. I just use the small foam fillers. The larger mesh ones were horrible, IME.
Grado’s and a tube amp: Mmmmmm…
I havent heard the GH2. Those are the ones with maple cups, correct? If so, they look really nice aesthetically speaking.
Very nice looking. I like darker woods and cocobolo is one of the nicer ones, imo. Nice tonewood too.
The GH1 was the one with maple cups…got them confused.
Agreed. Here is a better shot. When I looked at Lawton, I thought do I really need two cocobolos? Hell yeah! But then I chickened out!
Reference new Grado pads:
Ok, so I have a killer set-up for my Grado GS1000e’s. I feed them thru the DAC of my SPL Phonitor X to an old Sugden Headmaster amplifier. It’s the MOST musical class A power amplifier I own and that I have heard to date. This combo of pre-amp/DAC to amp is something magical with this pair of Grado’s, (To MY ears and in my opinion).
Having said this, the stock 1000’s sounded wonderful; with a spacious (incredible soundstage, very wide) and have a particularl airiness that i find extremely enjoyable. The stock ear pads sounded very good to me and provide a sound signature different from anything else in my collection. (see profile for details).
The new pads with the denser foam inserted in them from Silvian bring out the bottom end a touch differently, it seems “warmer” and a bit “denser”. The width of the soundstage feels as if it’s being brought in a touch closer to my ears and the airiness is not the same. This first combo seems to overall warm the sound up, from the low end all the way to the upper end. I’m not noticing any major change in the midrange, and that’s a good thing because I like the mids just the way they are. I need more time with them, that’s the best I can offer up as an initial impression.
They are a tiny, tiny, bit smaller and touch the tips of my ears, as opposed to the stock pads, a bit warmer (after an hour) due to their construction but very soft and have a quality feel about them.
As these were recommended to me, I would feel comfortable recommending them to others as a quality alternative. Silvian mentioned that the other foam included will NOT change the sound signature and they should sound just like the stock pads. To me this is a win win situation.
Happy Listening.
I bought the hybrids and they are super comfortable. The white foam compressed in mine and brought the cup much closer to the ear, but I still enjoy the sound very much.
I then tried the mesh filler and it pushed the cups much further from the ear, as you would expect. I didn’t care for that sound at all. Now it may be that when they compress a bit it would be much nicer.
I had a similar experience. Still worth over stock on comfort alone.
Those are back on Drop.com for $200. I am >so< tempted to nab one and be done with it…
/ponders
WAY worth it!
200 isn’t bad but I managed to nab mine for 180 + 18 for shipping, so for 200 it’ll actually be ~218 since you gotta consider shipping.
But I mean either way not a bad price for the amp, it’s 300 via Amazon and other places. Just gotta wait a while is all.
Listening to it with my dad and even without any mods, it make the HD600s sound WAY better than on a SS.
I mean you can always build a bootleg of it with enough know-how for less than 100 bucks though, but then you have to make a case for it and stuff which is a pain. Idk the Darkvoice does sound great tho with the right kind of headphones (Preferably High Impedance 150-300 Ohm, 300+ will still work but not as well as that sweet spot).
