What did you buy today? (Part 1)

what’s the audio like on that communicator? any good as a speakerphone for taking cell calls?

I had a Palm Pilot with a Tricorder app. That was 1.998. Very cool. Apple hadn’t stealed the idea for the iPad from Star Trek yet…

My Neutrik Rean connectors, Mogami cable, and Paracord came in.

Still waiting for some hardware splits and a couple other connectors I had to source from other places.

I want to make some Hart compatible cables and interconnects. I should be able to make about 5 cables and a couple of additional interconnects for about the price of a system.

KSC75s just came in the mail. Already threw some yaxi pads on them. Now this is just my initial impression of them, but whoever thinks these are better than Porta Pros are wrong. FIGHT ME !! PORTA PROS GANG RISE UP!

Quite decent for voice audio. It’s not terribly easy to set volume, but a little experimentation got a good balance between ringtone sounds loud enough to enjoy and voice not annoyingly loud. Voice clarity is quite good both ways, though–both speakers and mic seem to be of decent quality.

It’s not going to win any awards for music playback, but it’s excellent for simple TOS computer sounds and the like.

My Shozy Form 1.1 arrived today. The stock cable is really nice. The stock silicone tips are small, similar to guideray gr-i. I’m using spinfit CP100 at the moment.

EDIT #1: So far, the Campfire Audio Marshmallow Foam tips sound the best, so I will try these tips for the next few days to see how I like them.

Man Focal makes such a sexy product! I would love to own one but I know I just wouldn’t be happy with the $ spent when I’ve got much bigger needs now.

Some Focal Utopias or Buchardt A500’s… I should go with the Buchies.

I’d fight you, but then I’d have to get within 1.5 meters of you and my prime minister won’t let me…
(Both are amazing, but for my taste the KSC75s are just a bit better)

While I think the KSC75 are better with technicalities and imaging and such, you probably like Porta Pro more as it is a more pleasant sound signature to most people. Subjective imo.

I actually like both very much. I prefer the porta pros by the tiniest of margins, but the ksc75 do have better treble and imaging than the porta pros and I totally agree with you on that.

Porta pros have a more fun sound and thick bass. I lean towards fun sound over analytical, so I prefer the porta pros…but the ksc75 are still fantastic…especially once I popped them on a porta pro headband and added some yaxi pads.

Some more observations from listening to my Asgard 3 Multibit last night and this morning currently:

Ok, so listening to Atticus and Asgard 3 MB at the moment…really good smooth synergy. Surprisingly the treble still sounds natural and not overly smoothed off or dull like it did on my old Modi Multibit Magni 3 stack…nor does it sound shrill and compressed like on my old Modi 3 Asgard 2 stack.

I can comfortably recommend the Asgard 3 and if one wants a dac card, the MB card is pretty good, price considered. Doesn’t compete with RNHP BF2 stack, but it is a huge improvement over the Asgard 2 in every way.

Stax 2170 arrived today.

Been listening to them for a bit. I must admit, they are good yes, but definitely not blown away off the bat and thinking I need to listen to the L700 to year what electrostatic can really do or sell everything else I have.

People in my circle have kind of hyped this one up a tad.

I’m literally sitting here waiting to what will be trade bait to try the Asgard 3 with my Bifrost 2. But first… finishing some cabling for a THX 887 vs. Heresy listening comparison with the Bifrost 2 and Airist R-2R.

Electro statics need a day or two to charge. Leave the energizer on and the headphones/ear speakers plugged in before judging. You need to build a significant charge before they sound remotely like they should.

So can I not switch the energiser off at all?

it’s really no different than tubes…they’ve got to warm up too.

Tubes don’t two days to warm up…

Yikes! Hope you’re still working.

My dad bought a Darkvoice, took a quick look inside, looks great, turned it on and it seems to not combust so it seems to work atm. It’ll be a great point of comparison vs my amp (if that doesn’t decide to blow up when I power it on).

Oh also gonna let him listen to it stock, then add the Hum-Fitz and see how it reacts to that. Also kinda noticeable the heaters are being given too much voltage due to the 110V tenasformer, when I modded mine with a 120V transformer the heaters seemed a bit dimmer, not excessively so, but not as bright.
