What did you buy today? (Part 1)

a fiio zen/hipdac (depending on how much a zendac can work on a bed), and a schiit magni heresy

because im the future im thinking of getting beyerdynamic DT 770s (for the reference style closed back listening… basically better M50s) and Hifiman Sundaras (planar magnetic that i’d love to try out seeing as they will sound about as good as the 58X and maybe have a bit better high and punch of them)

IMO the sundara is going to be a higher tier of headphone than the 58x, but they are different

my main problem with the 58X was music felt like a SLIGHT bit lower pitched than the M50s

now having not really used the M50s in a month i love the sound of these and specifically the bass on some tracks (billie eilish and snoop dogg sound amazing on these)… personally i’d just love these with more of the “greater soundstage” benefit that people were talking about with open backs… these seem fairly closed

I’d say the sundaras sound like something you’d like. They’re brighter which may solve the lower pitch you’re experiencing, and they are definitely wider than the 660s (not heard a 58x but heard they’re similar). They are by no means bass cannons but I do find the bass very nice and clean and have listened to plenty of hip hop on them. Different headphones for sure but the sundaras have made me consider letting go of my 660s

If the M50X is your daily driver, everything else will sound vastly different. The m50x are extremely V shaped.

We’re

They were

I moved on after I found out they apparently sucked

So you think the Amps i planned to get can ruin them?

They’re not awful, just better options at that price range is all. But things will sound very different if those were your daily drivers.

couldn’t say for sure as I’ve not heard the zen, heresy, or hipdac. I have heard the single end out of the zen dac is not the most powerful so it may struggle with the sundara unless you go balanced. Otherwise I’d think the others are fine

the only reason i wonder about the hipdac and not the zendac is because this is the size of my bed

its the length that’s the specific issue

Bought a couple of TWS earbuds to test out for running: 1more Stylish, Jabra 65t active, and got the Soundcore Liberty Air 2 today. Initial impressions of the Liberty Air 2, they sound pretty damn good. Nice U-Shape/soft V; emphasized low end, but not overwhelming; vocal clarity is surprisingly very good; can get a bit tinny up top, but never sibilant or shrill (so far). I just need something for running and these have minimal runners thump/thud on impact, so it’s pretty much a win thus far. I also wouldn’t mind listening to these for casual listening. Unfortunately I’m too tired today, so I’ll start running … tomorrow.

Edit: Dammit, it’s a frigging unicorn amp… :rage:

Nice, any thoughts so far on them? :+1:

I’m trying to stay grounded, but I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a purchase in this hobby this much day one. I’ve been listening all day and everything sounds great. I think people tend to overstate the soundstage a little. It’s incredible for an iem, but it’s not as wide as the HD800 as I’ve seen some people state on head-fi. And when i was up and moving around, I did experience a little bit of driver crinkle in the left ear. But I didn’t have ear hooks in at the time, and haven’t heard it since I added them. Unless it gets worse, I can 100% live with it. Just a really cool experience to have Audeze planars on your head that are so light you forget they are there.

i’m more nervous about it now because ASR said it basically sucked

what would you recommend instead seeing as i have that much space on my room, i mostly am interested in driving the headphones and having as good a feature set (thats the hard part)

XDUOO XD-05 can hold you over for a long time, And not necessarily even the new version, the older one is an excellent unit overall. Look into it.
