What did you buy today? (Part 1)

I’m personally blown away by the 880 600ohm. Crazy value for an awesome headphone. Of the stuff i’ve heard it is my personal favorite in the sub 200$ range

It is still one of the best values at it’s price range…totally agree.

I’ve seen this. They’ve been consistently listed for $189 I believe. You guys like them? I’m curious, I’ve always wanted to try them and I know the 600ohm are supposed to be the best variant.

Do they exhibit the Beyer treble glair?

Thanks.

IMO the 600 is the best ohm version (also make sure to get the premium without the black pads, the black pads will accentuate the treble and reduce the quality a tad). I would say they exhibit the beyer signature, but they don’t really have the peaky harshness that the other lower ohm beyers have. Also they work pretty well off a tube too

do they give you a taste of what the Tesla has to offer?

Not exactly, you would want to get a tesla driver headphone for that one lol, but it’s a very good headphone nonetheless (they aren’t super unique imo). I will say that the 880 600 has my favorite voicing/tuning out of all that beyer has to offer

This is what interested me about these. That, and they’re German made.

Not these?

I did notice you’ve owned t1’s and 1990’s but you’ve kept the 880’s so that speaks volumes I suppose

I was waiting for silver pads to be mentioned :eyes:

These are the ones I recc, unless you are willing to buy 990/880 v pads to replace the black pads on the black edition

But black is sexy. :man_shrugging:t4:

Don’t get me wrong, those are great headphones, but they conflicted with other headphones I own, and personally I like to make sure every headphone has a reason for being there that other headphones can’t do, so little overlap, the 880 600 still do something that others don’t for me. (well almost all the headphones I owned I liked a lot, as I wouldn’t buy something that I think is bad or meh, and if that did happen it got sold and isn’t listed in my profile)

So the pads are different? I thought it was just the color, as they’re both velour.

They have a different thickness, and also the black pads are more dense and closed, it tends to sharpen treble too much and reduce spatial recreation capability from my experience. Not detrimental to have the black pads but not ideal imo

Have you tried them with a Lambskin or Suede pad?

I have but it’s been awhile, but I personally prefer the stock silver pads. But I do have alpha dog pads on my 770 250 ohm because they are wider and more fun that way lol

Not to mention that I hate changing beyer pads with a passion (or most pads in general, they can drive me nuts to get them back on)

I spent more time than i care to admit before i realized there was a notch system. Once i figured it out it’s been fairly painless, that being said I don’t plan on changing the pads on any of my beyers anytime soon lol

You might have a hard time finding them, but I actually enjoyed the oem beyer white gel pads when they were around, really different but good. Can’t find them on beyers site, here is a dead link to where you used to be able to get them lol
