What did you buy today? (Part 1)

I have no idea. I am up in Canada and not sure how it works. I have been with the same cell phone company for almost 30 years.

I suspect my next phone will be an NOS V40 or V50. And then I will have to figure that out.

Thanks for the response. Good luck with that transition.

NOS? who dat? V40 / V50 makes me think LG…but no idea what NOS means.

I want a 6.7" phablet with a 720 / 730 or the new 765. G or non-G…just make it affordable please! I can’t believe how expensive smartphones have become.

Top end phones have gotten WAY too expensive for me. My next phone will be NOS or used.

NOS means New Old Stock, just like with tubes. When I buy a V40 or V50 it will likely be at least a year old (more like two), but still new in the package.

ah yes. well, you likely can add the V60 to your shortlist soon as it’s being replaced by a V70. LoL.

I will probably try to keep the price down around $500.00.
Whenever it breaks I will start researching.

Like I said, I might replace my pixel 1 XL with this lg v30 if it works out. It’s an Amazon renewed phone but it feels pretty much brand new and I’m quite liking the phone so far. If it is unlocked I’ll have no reason not to switch over.

Edit: I tested with the Google Fi sum I have and it works

There is no need to buy a new phone for most people. Just buy a 2 or 3 year old model on Amazon and it will probably only be ~$200 and your average person won’t notice the difference in performance or quality, if there even is any.

The days are gone when every new phone was bigger, better and faster.

I won’t be buying any more ā€œflagshipā€ phones brand new. You just don’t have to anymore.

Sorry to go off-topic here, but I just wanted to ask, do people with tube amps generally find one pair of tubes they like and use strictly that or do they get multiple pairs of tubes they switch between?

Same. It’s just not worth it unless you need top of the line camera. But for that price you can buy an actual camera or even a old pixel

Depends on the person, but most tend to swap around tubes for a month until they settle with what they like and then stick with that, I don’t know many people who change tubes for different headphones or tracks constantly, it’s kinda a pita

That is a good question. I haven’t messed with my tube amp, but I have already bought extra tubes for my incoming hybrid.

hmmm…Fido has a deal on the Galaxy A70. $15 / m for 24 months…$360 vs the $500 it’s going for on Samsung’s website. these are CAD funds. just gotta see something regarding device insurance.

Nice and big. Does it have an earphone jack?

The big killer I find are the plans. When you get a new phone they always jack your plan up. With a Bring Your Phone Plan, you pay around $50.00 per month with talk and text with 2-4GB.

But the buy a phone plans always seem to start at $70.00.

Just my thoughts.

it does have a headphone jack…however I’m thinking of getting the Grado GW100’s and using Bluetooth. however, if I can find out what my options are for w shaped IEM’s, I may try that or get a portable DAC/Amp to clip to my collar.

edit - oh, and the A70 doesn’t require me to get a more expensive plan, I can do it with the monthly payments on my current 5GB for $50/m.

Got both the Beyer T1s and Mobius in today.

Immediately threw the T1s on and … was a little underwhelmed. I was hoping for a slightly more refined 1990, but the 1990 sounds more detailed to me. Maybe that’s due to 1990 intimacy? Maybe the 1990s have sharper treble (T1 sounds softer)? Maybe it’s the pads (the 1990s must have the lotsa-holes ones installed since the ones in the case are the few-holes pads; T1 only comes with one set)? Maybe I need to let the T1s burn in a bit? Or maybe I’ve got to find the right position for the angled driver?

Whatever the case, I found the sheer raw energy of 1990s addicting, and I’m not getting the same aggression out of the T1s. I put them on the 887 and cranked gain up to high and that’s helping a bit. Guess I’ll give them some time. They’re not bad. I just formed some expectations before trying them.

The Mobius were B stock, but look perfect. Not sure what makes them B’s, but they look new and unblemished to me. They come with an encyclopedia-sized instruction book that I’m not inclined to read right now, but I’ll check that out later tonight and try them out properly some time this weekend. Meanwhile, first impressions: the color (I got the blue) is vibrant and metallic–looks great. Ear cups look tiny, but fit well. Comfort is outstanding–clamping takes the weight out of the headband, and it’s got pads in all the right places. Not totally convinced about build quality yet (they feel a bit cheap), but I don’t see anything that worries me.

Guess that’s all for now. Got some playing around to do this weekend. Woot!

Those T1’s must be tough to drive? 600 Ohms is BIG.
That is why I bought the T5p.2’s. Maybe in the end I should have tried the T1’s.

The t1 is more relaxed and not as forward as the 1990 so that makes sense, but personally I do think it’s more detailed and spatially accurate than the 1990, but it is more picky on how you drive it compared to the 1990

that is interesting. wonder why they made the closed version of the T1 have such a difference in impedance.
