My ZMF Aeolus arrived today. Upon a quick test listen of “Tom Sawyer” by Rush, all I can say is these sound like a perfect match for my sound signature preferences. After a solid week of listening time, I will give my impressions.

The D50s DACs from Apos got here yesterday! Amazingly fast shipping from China, no less. I remain super-pleased with them.
One of these stacks is going to a friend of mine in New Zealand. A second one is going to my brother with an Elegia instead of the Beyers.

I really liked the Aeolus with the suede pads. you might want to try them
I did. I actually prefer the stock leather over them. The perforated hybrid universe pads are probably my favorite though.

New pads for LCD-2C’s. Sacrificed a bit of depth in the bass ( minimal,maybe 5%) for an opened up mids, that I think along with the pad thickness (added distance from driver) and with fenestrated option, it also widens the sound stage too. I’m quite enamoured by the change in sound.

Cancelled the schiit bifrost 2. Spent the money on the Ares II. Only reason I didn’t in the first place was the delay. If I’m going to wait 3 weeks regardless I might as well get the DAC that seems a bit more my style

Please write about your experience with this. When I looked it was $69.00 more than the BF2, but free shipping, so close to a wash.
I do like the idea of a 5yr warranty and lots of upgradability though.

BluJay, the price is listed in Singapore dollars. When you do the conversion it is close to the same as the Schiit BF2.
There is only 1 distributor for the Aries II, it is in Singapore.

I think all three are supposed to pair well with the rnhp/gilmore/mlp. Just depends on what you want. I want the forwardness. My headphones and amps are already pretty damn neutral. I like the little coloration my enog provides, and I would like it to present things a bit more forward / energetic. Ares is the first choice for that. The Bifrost was the cheaper and easier to acquire alternative, but apparently not so anymore lol.
Yea. Full price shipped is $769 *. Not that much more than the Bifrost 2. Actually, it’s pretty on par tbh.
1 authorized distributer selling it $40 USD higher… before import taxes.
I am also working with more budget equipment… Aint got anything over $300 new… For audio equipment at least.
