Curious as to how you like them
Hmm… Interesting. So a hard V shape with some bolted bass out of the box, and a much more in your face then laid back. Sound about right?
Picked up a pair of these for fun with a case. Been wanting to try Grado and play with them. See what I can make them do and how they sound.

and the amplification
That, my good sir was probably your best pun yet!
'tis a low, low bar
(although I was irrationally proud of ‘Bowels & Wilkins’ several weeks back)
I LOVE when new stuff finally arrives! Thanks @11_Clouds for the opportunity to expand the collection!
I’ve already got the Sonys on my head and am listening to City Ruins from the Nier:Automata Orchestral Arrangement Album
@BluJay614 Awesome man I was going to message you tonight to see if everything came in alright, glad to hear
Tried the M40x with the Brainwaves and ZMF pads, and I definately like them better with the ZMF, though I think I like the Sonys better. They aren’t as agressive, but seem more clear and detailed. For example, listening to New York, New York by Frank Sinatra, there are aspects of the way he sings I hadn’t noticed before. However, with the M40x, the bass has a much stronger punch and the treble isn’t as sharp.
Tonight has been the most stunning listening session I’ve ever experienced. It has completely redefined what’s possible from sound thingies I’ve strapped to my head. I never thought I could say this, but Utopias have not only been dethroned, they’ve been outclassed.
I have to admit, the power requirements had me anxious. Nevertheless, I had heard from someone else who owns Susvara that the Topping A90 will power them adequately. I’m happy to report that is the case. It took a balanced cable, high gain, and the dial turned to 1:00, but the little Topping pushed this mighty beast of a headphone to not only plenty loud volume, but a level of performance I have never experienced from anything aside from maybe HE1s. And I had so little time with those that I can’t rightly say I know them well enough to generalize.
One of the first things that hit me (pun intended) was the breathtaking dynamic range and impact that Susvaras deliver. Paying homage to the magnitude of a first listen, I broke out the main theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey as my inaugural track. Instrument timbre is the most realistic I have heard since the impossible tier of loudspeakers at RMAF, but what really startled me was the impact of the cymbal crashes–they’re loud in a way that feels more like a live event than a recording. That same lively punch appeared on recording after recording and it’s what sets Susvara on a tier apart from even my beloved Utopias, which wondrously detailed as they may be, still feel like just headphones.
After a couple hours on the A90, I jumped over to the Pendant, which has stupendous amounts of power and drives Susvaras beautifully. Despite the entirely SE chain, I can’t even push the volume on the Pendant all the way to noon. I can only imagine what this thing could do closer to its limits!
It’s unhealthy for me to read this.
Happy listening!
Congrats on this amazing purchase. This have been my favorite headphones by far!
I can relate to your first impression, Is truly breathtaking.
Nice M40x, man I miss mine to this day. If only they did not broke physically I would have been still using it.
I second this sentiment
truth! A scholar and a gentleman
I actually feel like I enjoy the Sony a bit more.
