What did you buy today? (Part 1)

The prefazor lcd2 and lcd3 are rare. The lcd x non fazor is almost unheard of and nearly impossible to find. I didn’t know it existed until today. Honestly, I have no idea how it will sound but couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Finally my Mullard CV2984 arrived. The seller actually paid out of pocket and ordered one from Langrex to replace the 2 Thomson CSF 6080WA duds that I got. I was wondering why it took so long…props to the seller for making it right.

That’s a nice and highly regarded tube. I like it.

I like it a lot as well. Im trying to see if I like it better than the Bendix 6080WB that I got recently. It is neck and neck, but the Mullard may have the edge due it sounding more natural and musical, at least to my ears.

I’m currently listening to it paired with the Telefunken ECC82 and that combo is killer.

Well I didn’t buy these all today (over the last week or so), but the final piece (the stands) came in

Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand speakers from ebay, Classe CA-150 power amp (that big beautiful black box on the bottom shelf) from Q Audio in Cambridge, Rockville 36 inch stands, Kimber PBJ ics, Kimber classic speaker cables. Being driven by my Hugo 2 connected to my desktop (which I had already).

Nice! I have that combo now too but haven’t thrown in the telefunken due to using new headphones with the amp. Stick with what I know for now. Looking forward to it though.

Do you do any gaming? 800S are hands-down my favorite heapdhones for gaming, They manage to excel at uncluttered spatial reproduction for PVP while producing exciting cinematic sound for more immersive gaming. They’re also super light and comfy for long gaming sessions. They really check all boxes.

Negative on the gaming front, it has been many years since i picked up a controller or played a game on a computer. The new star wars flight sim has caught my eye though so who knows…
I just happen to really like the sound signature very much on these. I had the option to purchase newer “better” models but i actually really really like these for much of my blues, jazz, instrumentals, vocals etc. They are VERY comfortable and the 300ohm rating works really well with several of my amplifiers👍

Yeah, they can be a little picky with recordings / chain, but they’re wonderful when you find a good synergy.

Finally caught up with the thread again… I just completed an order for 2 sets of the Topping 50s ensemble from APOS:

Some time back I purchased a couple D50s DACs for stacks I built for friends and family. I passed on the A50 because of the output impedance, and the P50 didn’t really make sense without both of the units. But now the A50s fixed the OI, and apparently uses waterfalled technology from the A90, so it’s much more compelling. I got an email recently offering to complete the ensemble at a discount, so decided to jump on that.

Meanwhile, I also have some new cables coming soon that I’m very excited about. I’ll unveil those in a future post.

LCD 2.2 PF came Friday. Didn’t have much time with them yesterday and last night but I’ve been listening pretty much all morning and I’m pleased. These are a really good deal for the $650 I picked them up for. Just a touch of warmth so jamming to those harsher tracks don’t come off as bad/harsh in the highs. They’re very natural sounding to my ears. I know the fazors improved the imaging but I don’t find the imaging particularly bad on these. Definitely an improvement over the X, in many areas imo.
I know I’ll be called crazy but if you said $650 for these or $1500 for Rad-0, I’d take these. Comfort alone haha.
Props to @Hazi59 or the recommendation!
Props to @Bmn1251 for the sale!
