What did you buy today? (Part 1)

What DAC(s) are you coming from?

I have an SMSL SU-8. I had pretty much made up my mind a few days ago.

According to @MON it will be a very noticeable upgrade. I had thought really hard about the ARES II, but the tie was broken this week:

  1. Canadian dollar got strong, but so did the Singapore dollar
  2. 5yr warranty vs 3.
  3. Upgradable, AT HOME!

And I have finally reached a place of contentment regarding my headphone collection, so it was time.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve heard. OLEDs have come a long way in a few years.

That looks like the colorway of the v1’s. I never seen v2’s having the shiny purple colorway of the v1’s. I wonder if there was an overlap between the two kind of like the LCD-2 rev. 1’s and 2’s (early rev. 2’s had the same wooden jack holders as the rev. 1’s before changing over to the studier non-wood construction).

The v2 colorway (like the one I own) is typically matte black (someone else’s HEXv2’s pictured below):

I was curious about that as well so I asked the seller about it.

The reason for that is the original owner had the V1 drivers die on him under warranty. They did an RMA and gave him V2 drivers with the V2 baffle foam using the V1 cups. They even gave him a new serial number which pulls up as V2 on the site. Im happy I asked about it. But…I only paid $500 anyways, so even if it was a full V1, I wouldn’t have been disappointed.

NICE! I’m sure you will enjoy it. The Bifrost 2 is one of 3 items in 2020 that gave me the “WOW!” factor - the others being the Hex V2 and MLP.

I guess I could say 4 things because using those all together begets an even bigger “WOW”! - For myself.

Nice. Besides, I like the v1 colorway more than the v2’s. :+1:

EDIT: grammar correction, weekend brain …

Thank you! My biggest Wow’s in 2020 were the LP, the Violectric V220 and the Focal Elex.

For 2021 the Cascades are blowing my mind and I hope the BF2 will do the same.

Bifrost 2 came in today and initially, it is a step up from the SDAC-B and Eitr+Mimby v2. Kind of went through a little bit of shipment hell though.

USPS delivered it to a house that’s 1000 numbers off my home address almost two miles away. This is not the first time this happened between the two addresses and thankfully it is rare, but it is still frustrating nonetheless. Good thing is that the homeowner and my household exchanged numbers in the past and we contact each other whenever our shipments end up at each other’s addresses in error. So far, all three major carriers (UPS, FedEx, and USPS) screwed up with USPS obviously (by sheer volume) screwing up more. Then again, they would be fine if they used GPS. I’m currently living in the countryside while I WFH, so it isn’t that f’n hard to find my home.

What do you think it’s like in Germany?
Most Hermes and Dpd and Uls drivers are of Polish, Bulgarian and Romanian origin and hardly speak the language.
And it happens that the parcels are lying in front of the door where anyone can grab them and run away with them.
Or they lie somewhere in the rain.
And they are not allowed to just leave it if there is no permit, they have to take it away again.

I also think that if the companies paid better, they wouldn’t be like this. I wouldn’t want to do this job, it’s so underpaid.
It’s really sad in a way.

Have fun with the new one though.and be glad that there are still such nice people around.

That is AWESOME that you two are friendly to each other for the shipping mistakes and contact each other for te items that they deliver incorrectly!

My Hart audio cable finally arrived. It’s very nice. My only complaint would be the fostex connectors are kind of cheep feeling, but I blame fostex for making their connectors so expensive and hard to find. I got boring black as to not distract from the W O O D.

Like I said, I’m really happy with @brux work. I think when the holidays are over and their backlog has gone down I might see if he’ll do detachable cable mods to my Grados.

Bought several tubes to try on the CTH (current favorite with my LCD2 PF). I know you guys are all about the MLP, but honestly, I like the CTH better… So, more money for tubes.

Let me know if he gets into that.
