I was going to order when I thougt there was a $100 789 add on to pad the risk, but im super on the fence now. On on hand I will listen to these one way or another. On the other hand, that 1200 (including tax) + money im freeing up from other cans will go quite a long way twoards trying new shit far sooner

Nah m8. Noob or not. The fact that some of us are willing to spend multiple thousands on headphones just means we are the one with broken ass perspectives, not that you are a noob. 6XX+tubes will be a better listening experience than 99% of the globe will ever even think exists, much the less hears.

oh, 1000%. My gut feeling is these will end up loosing the magic of the 800s in one way or another, and you can get used 800S for $900 all damn day, and clear, LCD-X, Arya, MEST, VX, IER-Z1R, and a massive number of other options are asuredly good picks used for that price instead of a gamble that you wont even be able to listen to for several months.

I have the THX 887. If you want a headphone like the 800 S, get a better amp. Ideally look at tube amps or as M0N mentioned to me a “constant current amp”.

Just ordered some, Ill be powering them from my ifi idsd sig. Pretty excited, currently listing to FiiO fh7’s.

Which model for the car speakers?

Focal has good car audio stuff.

I upgraded my stock to MB Quart back in the day. lol.

I know I’ve been looking at MTX, though the reps at Crutchfield seem convinced that despite it being the stock size, aftermarket 6x8 will not fit in the rear of my truck. Kinda had me looking at Focal as another option again.

Their size checker has been wonky recently. Had a ton of speakers that used to fit that no longer shows as fitting, including the ones I’ve actually fitted to my car…

No, that’s the exact reason they gave me. “Well, yeah, the factory speakers are 6x8, but the hole is too small for anything bigger then an aftermarket 5.25 to fit”. Excuse me if I’m not totally buying it.

Edit: I will admit I paraphrased a bit. This is the actual quote:
“The factory are oval and close to 6x8, but the issue is that the opening is too small for aftermarket 6x8’s. So we give you a bracket so you can install 5 1/4” speakers."

As in lentgh/width or depth? Depth I can understand but surely you can just buy fitting brackets? Mine’s 6x8 and I fitted 5.25. Granted I had to be creative with my crossover mounting but the speakers fit fine.

Ok yeah get what they’re saying. I suppose they’re trying to limit their returns but shouldn’t treat everyone like noobs either.

If they didn’t go and contradict themselves with their own materials.

LOL! Classic.

ts more of the added value proposition than it is wanting a 789

oh nice! Yah, these are a little bit harder to run so they should work well on the sig. The added warmth will be a benefit too. Hope you like them!

The value of THX amps is that it’s either a mobile DAC/amp in bluetooth or in the trash. But that is my personal opinion.

I heard so many rave reviews, and I bought a THX887 , and I dont understand the hype. Sure blackground was pitchblack, and it says on the tin it has enough power to drive anything (which imo doesnt say too much about an amp in today’s standards) to my ears, its cold and really really flat, and on some tracks really bright. its good though that it has good reviews, cos it means i can sell it off fairly easily…

Same! I’m glad some people trust their ears more than the hype.
