I’m gonna put my first impressions on the HP-2 thread (if there is one that is!) I’ve got them on right now. Wow. The stock cable is the best I have ever received. It’s not balanced, but right now I don’t care. It sounds so good I’m just gonna leave it alone. Wow.
No doubt. I’m sort of at a loss right now. These are easily the best headphone I have heard. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Focals, but there is something in the overall presentation that sets the HP-2 apart. Fantastic.
The DAC no one seems to talk about anywhere online other than the 5 glowing reviews. I mean it’s a made in Switzerland DAC- how can it not be excellent?
I am not familiar with the brand. I am intrigued, though. Interesting, Input, output and nothing else! I think it maximizes the “less is more” approach. Love the fact that it’s balanced and has good input capability. Also, interesting that it has a BurrBrown DAC. I bet it sounds really good. I could not find any pricing info, so not sure it’s a viable option. Looks good though!
seems to be about EUR 900 here in Europe. they have the lousiest product website in terms of information I have seen in a while, which might explain why ‘no one seems to talk about it’…
1350 USD, 1790 CAD (got a demo for 1650CAD) but yeah, I like the idea of only paying for a DAC, nothing else, not even a screen. The idea behind this people speculate is to keep costs down as much as possible to compensate for higher production cost of being made in Switzerland. I love the sound of the Burr Brown as per my former Zen, and its a hybrid multi-bit so I’m hoping I get the best of both worlds with the more analogue sound without the drawbacks of “cheaper” R2R DACs like lack of speed as someone who does enjoy some electronic music. Ill certainly report back with a review. Almost bought the Bryston BDA 2 but was $75 away from a price I deemed acceptable to go with the DS architecture. 3 year warranty doesn’t hurt. Read the reviews- people make it sound like the second coming of Christ for DACs under 2-3K (depending who’s review you read)
Getting off topic but I see this so often: Interesting chifi stuff I want to buy in Germany then they have one single obscure so called “distributor” from which I wouldn’t buy a sack of potatoes because the website looks like from 1998.
Very cool. I’m glad you are bringing it to the light, man. This is checking a lot of boxes for me as to what I would want a DAC to do for me that fits this desktop environment of mine. Too bad there is no Black option, even though I think the thing looks killer as is.
