What did you buy today? (Part 2)

Yeah man, why not

I have a super soaker that I use for water fights with my nieces and nephew, tactical training courtesy of the USMC, and a childish love for playground games. When and where are we meeting to get this battle kicked off?!?!:sunglasses:

To keep this strictly topical, today I purchased supplies to make a bunch of .338 Lapua Mag hand loads because I am getting together with some of my buddies next weekend for a little long range shooting competition and I can’t wait to send those suckers home with lighter wallets and deflated egos lol!

Is shooting .338 still like shooting $5 bills? The price always scared me off, but a bolt gun in .308 or 6.5 has been on my list for some time. I mostly pop 5.56 and .22 when I have time for the range.

It does indeed get a bit expensive, but a .338 is what I was behind over in the sandbox and I really only shoot it when I’m going for precision over extreme distances or shooting competitively with others. The guys I am meeting up with are all vets from the same unit and/or program I was in and some were in it with me others were in it before or after. Meaning these guys are some of the best shooters the Marines, and by extension the US military, has ever fielded. When we get together to shoot it involves big bets, but, more importantly, winner takes home big bragging rights. Being the kinda guys we are, we all legit think we’re the best.

That aside, .338 is my favorite calibre to shoot and if it was financially feasible I would shoot it all the time. When you’ve gotten to know a round like it’s an extension of your fist, fired countless rounds of it down range in battle situations, and relied on it to keep you and your fellow Marines/soldiers alive, it’s hard not to favor it’s use whenever possible. I can shoot and shoot extremely well with anything, but .338 is, IMO/IME, the perfect long distance/sniper round.

This little get together will be the first time I get to take my Accuracy International AXSR out against some real top shelf competitors rather than just at my ranch or the shooting club. Don’t get me wrong, there are some fine shooters at the club and who shoot with me regularly, but the guys I’m talking about have skills that it’s next to impossible to acquire as a civilian. It’s going to be so much fun and I’m gettin’ psyched up just writing about it! :joy:

Edit: I should add that I have plenty of long guns and hand guns chambered in just about every calibre imaginable because I love to shoot just about anything. Did you have a specific .308 in mind?

Nothing particular at the moment, I barely get to field my AR, 1911 or carry gun (Glock 43) as it is lol. I actually pared down my collection a couple years back to consolidate ammo types and reduce redundant pieces. It sounds like you boys are doing some DISTANCE shooting, farthest I ever went was quals, dropping it in the black at 500y with irons on the old A2s (I was airwing). I mostly shoot 25-50 yards these days, more destressing than challenging haha. I’m still pretty “Pizza Box” but I can make shots when I need to.

Makin’ shots when you need to is what matters. I’m actually slowly pairing down my collection for basically the same reasons you did. That said, I have a collection of rare and hard to find pieces that won’t be going anywhere and I have some sentimental pieces that I’ll keep no matter what. The modern stuff that I can pretty much pick up anywhere, anytime if I need it again is what I’m slowly consolidating.

And, yes, we’re gonna be shooting at some extreme distances. 1500 meters and beyond is where we’ll start getting to see who’s been keeping themselves sharp. We also do moving target shots and even “trick shots” for bets. Sometimes guys will do iron sights competitions. Basically whatever’s clever or comes to mind for fun. As much as we’re all competitive, we’re also all very good friends/brothers and having fun practicing the discipline we’re trained to be the best at is the name of the game.

1/3 of my AliExpress package came through - pretty sweet Open Heart cable, with a free little carrying case (which was super nice of them) that I didn’t know was coming in. The cable is actually really really nice in terms of behavior, doesn’t seem be stiff at all. Ear hooks seem to be a little aggressive but that can be fixed. Its extremely light weight with nice black metal hardware with gold accents.

For $27 I absolutely cannot complain.
OH! Almost forgot, it also came with a real leather loop with a little button to keep it closed. Really really nice touch as I have a few of these. All in all - good purchase :+1:

I really like that cable bought one myself

That a 2.5 termination?

Nice - thought it was going to be heavy but it’s probably one of the lightest cables I own. Good stuff

It is, sir

There are several 338. Which one? Any magnum will be very expensive.

Mostly due to foreign manipulation, WEF/NWO, & its pupets, everything is expensive. A brick of 22LR isn’t that cheap anymore, compared to 5 years ago, especially 20 years ago.

I snagged about X worth of rifle ammo just before it disappeared a few years ago & have only fired a few to check zero & kill hogs & coyotes a few times. Let’s say, when I’m out, nobody else can use my rifle against me.

Yeah the milsurp dry up has been rough (remember when Nagants and Spam Cans were pocket change?). I was definitely referring to .338 Lapua btw, which I have been told is akin to “having a rifle chambered in $5 bills”, and that was way back like a decade ago. I have always steered away from niche chamberings for cost/availability purposes, but if you shoot competition I suppose that one can’t argue with great ballistics!

I had a 338WinMag 20 or 30 years ago & a stainless/laminate Ruger M77. It was beautiful, but it just kicked too hard. Never even got it sighted in. Very unpleasant to shoot.

When I found out about the ballistics of the 6.5 Grendel, compared to a 5.56, & a 6.5 Creedmoor; I thought it made the most sense so thats what I picked, & I figured every little militant commie running around will have an AK or 5.56. Those will be readily availble after I run out of ammo.

External drive arrived. Windows reports 16 TB.Data transfer tops out at 30 GB.

Opened dispute at aliexpress.
Got the refund €30 after bs support ping pong. Had to drill the case open and send photos because my evidence was not “good enough”.

32GB micro SD.

Let’s see if they ban the seller.

That’s crazy! Was it you or someone else that predicted it would be an SD card in a case? Or did I read that somewhere else entirely? Either way, I love how they didn’t even go as far as to use a high capacity SD card either. They just went straight bare minimum 32GB. It’s like they ran out of enthusiasm for really trying to pull off this fraud attempt half way through lol!

On a serious note, I’m glad you got your money back, bro. I guess they didn’t have much of a choice once you ripped it open and showed them the SD card. It says a lot about AliExpress that the seller and, perhaps more egregiously, the “drive” are still up on their platform. If that doesn’t doesn’t remind us all to have a “buyer beware” mentality when purchasing from sites like AE, I don’t know what will.
