My old ass camera was getting a little “too” old ass. Replaced it with something less old.
The Adam Audio A5X arrived a few days ago. This morning I got a chance to take down the T5V, set up the A5X and calibrate the levels (I have a JBL LSR310S under the desk).
Man, these little puppies are SOLID. In spite of being a bit narrower and less deep than the T5V, the A5X weigh two pounds more. I like the way the carbon fiber woofer looks. The front ports are nice. I like having the volume knob and power switches on the front. I like that the volume knob has a detent at 0dB. Looks and features are all a step up for me.
First listening impressions are positive. It’s what I was hoping for. They have a very similar character as the T5V but they’re a step more refined. More clarity. More space between the instruments. More punch with percussion. More body. Better integration with the sub. Yep. Worth it.
Does that mean I think it’s worth it for everyone? Probably not. The T5V gives you 90% of the performance for half the price. If you’re on a tight budget, they deliver. The only thing I ever disliked about the T5V is that there’s no detent in the volume knob. I always enjoyed listening to them. I hope I enjoy the A5X even more and I think I will.
Hello,
The postman came today.
He brought me the brand new Lin Lai E-6SN7 pair of tubes.
Lin lai is not necessarily new, the short version is that they are former employees who worked at PS vane and Shunang.
And there were some problems with the building where the tubes were made and so on.
The tube has been running for a few hours and compared to the Ps Vane Mk2 6sn7 it is more organic, goes a bit deeper and is more present.makes a good impression so far.The Build is really great from it and beautiful.
I got the Brimar 6080 for a good price and it is supposedly a re-labelled 6080 Sylvania.
Which was common in the past.
The sound is a bit bright in my opinion and has a bit less bass but minimal.
Let’s see what the burn-in says later.
Bought this like new, but Andrew from Musicteck told me he sold that one already, so he sent me a new one instead!
Luxury & Precision P6 Pro
Great choice, and congrats! Love mine
So funny thing. That single entry is on the right side. So at first I had them backwards.
Sound wise these were super boring. To the point my M50s started sounding good.
I feel like they are strictly for use in a professional setting and ultimately feel like a tool. A very very uncomfortable tool.
Gotta love it when stuff shows up three days early. My first stack and first transaction with a forum member. Thanks again @MRHifiReviews!
Awesome stack, some people even say it’s endgame. Congrats! Also @MRHifiReviews seems like a solid dude, enjoy his videos.
I don’t know what it is but it looks beautifully presented!
Well, I did a thing this evening. Ordered some goodies from Apos…
Topping A90 in silver…
Hifiman Sundara…
This 4.4mm to stereo XLR from Amazon as a temp solution…
Until this Hart Audio cable comes in…
Need to search around for a good balanced cable replacement for the Sundara’s. I don’t want to use that crap stiff cable that it comes with. The Hart Audio ones says they’re out of stock or I would have ordered one already.
I bought a New Fantasia replacement cable on Amazon for $18, way better than the stock cable and it’ll hold me over until I can get a Hart Audio cable
Ordered! Just wish it wasn’t a million feet long though, but oh well. It’ll work for now.
Thanks for the tip!
Happy to help!
I like the NewFantasia cables. I think they have lower microphonics than the Periapt cables which can be very annoying when I’m whipping my head back and forth with dual monitors.
I got 4 Psvane EL 34 matching tubes and 2 x 12AU7 & 12AX7 tubes for my Cayin CS-55A amp. I have been looking for an upgrade for some time and wondered if Psvane are as good as described.
And the last few days my IEM cable orders all were delivered: 1 super cool 2 pin cable with 4.4 termination form Satin Audio and a bag of cable straps and some AliExp cables of various quality.
Edit: right out of the box, the tubes have immediately one advantage over the stock tubes: there is not a scratchy noise when I turn the volume up as with the stock tubes; perhaps the more clarity in sound also comes from this.
TESLA Gold-Pins / NOS E88CC for my liquid platinum. First tubes I have ever bought.
Looks good,have Fun with it
So I had a bunch of ‘Boxes, Wires, and Boxes with Wires’ come in over the past couple of weeks. Family Photo and Backside Photos eventually will come if I ever get them to sit still and pretend to like each other.
Singxer SU-2. Big improvement over my PC USB/Optical direct to DAC. I run SPDIF to DAC 1 (not pictured), AES to my Amp/DAC (not pictured) and SPDIF over Coaxial to the DAC below. Many cables I had to get for this (not pictured).
Berkeley Audio Design Alpha DAC Series 2 w/MQA. (I have an unfavorable opinion of MQA)
PASS HPA-1 - Newest addition, but I can’t seem figure out how to adjust the volume.
ABYSS Diana® Headphone Cable (3.5mm) that I re-terminated with a Plussound XLR connection. It’s pretty bulky and I’m not a raving fan of it. Replaced the 2.5mm Abyss connectors with Lemo connectors to use with a particular headphone. (I also was inspired to make a single ended adapter inspired by other XLR to 1/4". I won’t use it after seeing the HPA-1 with a 6" erection.
I’m glad the term is catching on. lol
Maybe it’s the big round knob? Man, I’ve always had a soft spot for that amp. Never heard it, have no ideal how it would even sound. But it’s just a love at first sight thing for me. Let me know what you think about it!
It’s a shocking difference what a good DDC can do isn’t it?
