My favourite dongle, even above DC Elite (tho Ru7 is kinda trash with single DD, where DC Elite shines)

Specifically on DSD64 - the most smooth, analogue and dimensional setting - I don’t even bother with DSD128 or DSD256. As you say, it imparts an enhanced perception of depth and substance into notes.

I absolutely love it! :star_struck:
Ended up using DSD256 though as it seemed to be the most “Hi-Fi” sound while still being smooth and very dimensional. I don’t like when the Sound is too analogue like so i skipped quickly without noticing If the dimensionality might be even stronger on the lower settings.
DSD256 blew me away in this regard already.
The transparacy of C12 really helps here, it seems they were made for each other, i am very happy with my purchase (200€ new on Ali )

DC Elite also did not wow me and i dismissed it after a short listening session due to ergonomics

To clarify, I do think DC Elite is incredible, but because it offers such a flat presentation frequency wise, you need extra care in partnering in order for its virtues to show up. Every DD I paired it with just hyperboosted the end-to-end extension, lowered the perceived distorsion to almost planar-levels and blew up the sense of space and stage. Really awesome…

DSD64 allows me to listen louder with IEMs that already are U-shaped, chamfering the edges ever so slightly, sculpting notes into something more tangible.

I was not convinced of DSD64 initially, settling for DSD128, but have grown to exclusively use DSD64.

In any case, the RU7 rocks and is a unique dongle - hope they try another 1-bit dongle in the future!

Heard good things about the 550 and I can use all my pc38x stuff on it
Was excited for a keyboard from one of the guys at/formerly at E-MU but one of the corners are borked :frowning:

What ultimately led you to prefer DSD64 over 128?

DSD64 is smoother and has a less artificial, less processed quality to the sound. It sort of sands the treble edges to be less prominent.

Absolutely do not pair the Ru7 with single DDs though, it’s a bad combination.

But for Hybrids or Tribrids, IMO its the best there is. I have tried almost all of the best dongles. It lends substance and a 3D quality to notes that I have not heard from anything else (on DSD64). It also allows you to listen louder and get a closer, more intimate presentation to the midrange.

Yup, I actually bought a pair of prescription glasses from ali for like 50 usd. Expected the frame to be cheap plastic or something (they do claim it being a metal frame and it certainly feels more metal than my old pair) but this actually feels more premium than my old pair that I paid at least 100 usd just for the frames in Sweden…

I have another pair from an EU store that I paid 350 usd coming tomorrow (according to ETA) so will see how the lenses and frames compare then. Although I went with a bit weaker power with the ali lens as I wanted it for a backup/reading pair.

So far though I may never buy another pair from a local/eu store if this is comparable…the price difference is insane…guess chifi aint the only thing china is dominating with…

I didn’t see that purchase coming :nerd_face::smile:

haha yeah I needed some new glasses (havent bought a new one in like 5 years and the same amount of time since my last eye test).

The price difference really is insane though…I mean just the frame on that eu store was 4x more than I paid for the entire thing on ali…and this ali pair is apparently using a lens from a japanese company (Mitsui chemicals MR-7)…

Unless this is a knowles/Bellsing situation since they only specififed “MR-7”…

Edit: this is the frame I got from the eu store.

I use mostly daily lenses, but I have some glasses in spare in-case my eyes are tired. You should check out EyeBuyDirect, can put in a photo of yourself to check how the glasses would look on you. Do not like the glasses, then you can return them. Quality frames, some inside info I heard from a store in Norway is that EyeBuyDirect make the glasses for many of the big brands in the world.

Picked up Juzear Butterfly 61T and Xenns Tea Pro on Amazon days special

I’m quite impressed with both so far in early days…61T is ‘better’ on the DX180 and Tea Pro on DX340

Interesting, looks like the price is somewhere in between misterspex and the ali (zennotic) store.

edit: although it looks like none of the frames are up my alley…

Second pair came, this one from Misterspex (eu store).

Packaging is better (came in a hard box instead of the plastic that ali sent) but accessories…is none existent here. I actually got a useable case AND a microfibre cloth with the ali pair (Zennotic).

Frame quality does feels better to me (this is Titanflex) but is it worth 10x the price difference for the frame? absolutely not…
Lens quality, its hard to tell as I did not pick the same power on them (didnt want redundancy and wanted the ali pair for close/mid distance use) and i also added this “smart focus” feature on the misterspex pair (no-line bifocals I believe they are called).

But atm it seems that the ali pair gives me slightly more motion sickness/dizzyness when I turn my head rapidly…everything else besides that seem similar though…like the peripheral vision having chromatic abberation (I think thats what its called) due to them both being index 1.67 lens.

Oh and I asked Zennotic about the MR-7 lens if they are using mitsui chemicals (Japanese) they only said they dont use japanese products…so I guess it really is a knowles/bellsing situation lol.
