Finally got my Argons! About 15 weeks, including shipping. I bought the T60RP’s new, used them for a few weeks and then shipped them off.
Right now is the first time I have ever used the Hart Audio cable I received about 13 weeks ago. Of course it works perfectly.
I have it hooked up to my Pro iCAN with X-bass and 3D doing their magic. I am at mid gain and the volume is around 10:00.
I was using the T5’s when they arrived so it will take a bit to adjust.
what is the sound stage like in the Argon’s? I guess I should ask about imaging as well, since those two really need to go hand in hand. sound stage is useless if you’ve only got a blob in front of you. LoL!
The music feels like it is coming from all around me, almost 360 degrees. But it does not feel as if it is coming from across or around the room. It still feels pretty close.
Not nearly as wide open as the Monolith M1570’s, which almost sound like listening to speakers, to me.
Bass is substantial, but still pretty good clarity. I think these will be closest to my Cascades, but prettier and way more comfortable.
Sooo, something strange happened today while on the way to buy a Schiit Bifrost. I had been talking about it, weighing all the decision points, checking my budget, everything seemed right to make the purchase. Except for the one other thought that has been pinging around in my brain for a while now as well.
After careful consideration, I ordered up this today -
I know, right?!? I kinda zigged when I was set to zag! I realized I was searching for a different sound, so the M200 will feed the TA-20 over balanced when it gets here. I will reconnect the SP200 with RCA’s and see how it sounds. Should be fine. This way I will have a clean solid state solution and now a hybrid tube.
I am anxious and excited to hear how this unexpected fork in the road turns out. I foresee another headphone purchase down the road to enhance the new tube experience, but I figured that is part of the deal. I guess the Bifrost will have to wait a while longer, but that is OK. Something to look forward to.
Interested to hear what you think. I would describe the sound as weird. I went through several hybrids and this one sounded like no other. Lots of power though.
Maybe my unit was flakey, but I didn’t enjoy it.
On the upside, I got a great price and actually broke even on re-sale. That is a major victory for me.
Copy that. I consider this a roll of the dice, but sometimes you just have to do it. Allegedly the discreet class A amp that makes up the hybrid part of the unit is of high quality. We will see. I will most likely get a set of HD 650 phones to back things up. From what I can gather the high impedance 6xx family pairs well with tube amps.
Additionally this opens the door to tube rolling, which has me intrigued. An art within the art if you will.
But keep in mind that the HD6XX’s/HD650’s are reputedly better on OTL tube amps. The hybrid amps will cover a wide range of headphones, but I don’t know if you’ll get that tube magic.
Also, tube rolling on a hybrid will not get you the wide range of sounds it will on an OTL unit.
In spite of all my negativity, I wish you good luck with your new toy. And we do all hear very differently.
