The local box office could go the way of theatre in the rich countries. you have to be in a big city to catch a blockbuster. But there will still be the cineplex internationally i think.
Expanse is in atmos, much better than netflix atmos so far.
Last episode of The Mandalorian, oh so good played loud.
I am not a binger, so glad they did the three episode dump and are going weekly for the rest.
EDIT: so youāre telling me you can listen to Amos in Atmos?
Yep 4k HDR10 dolby atmos. Checked the earlier seasons no atmos. Guess people are watching amazon is throwing money at it.
Just watched Wonder Woman 1984 at my local movie theater and it reminds me how I miss watching in a theater. It was just something different that I couldnāt get with my home setup. The sheer magnitude of the roomās size and everything inside it is unbeatable in my opinion.
The spectacle of IMAX and staduim seating matinee on a weekday is awesome. Since getting into HT i repeat trips to the megaplex often alone for being preoccupied thinking about the damn gear and taken out the movie during first viewing.
WW84 needed IMAX but not sure IMAX stadium seating would help this movie.
And maybe this movie is for girls (which im cool with).
If you want the closest thing possible to IMAX at home (assuming a full home theater set up is out if the question) then a set of Lawton moded X00s is the way to go. Iām in love with watching movies and TV with them. The bass rumbles so good I feel it in my chest. Then the rest of the frequency range sounds fantastic and voices are still easy to hear and understand.
As for what Iāve watched recently, I watched Star Wars ep I and II. Terrible movies, but they are entertaining spectacles and visually have an extremely well realized world and aesthetic. If only george lucas wasnāt on a (possibly drug fueled) power trip when he made these movies. They may have turned out to be genuinely good.
I may have to try thisā¦
George Lucas apparently tried to defend that terribleness recently:
His argument is unconvincing, IMO. It seems to me that if youāre trying to communicate an idea or style and basically no one picks up on that idea or style from your work, then you did a bad job of communicating. We have some folks on this forum that have way more expertise in film and visual arts than I do so Iām curious what they have to say about this, though.
All I know is that he was surrounded by yes men and no one challenged his decisions. Thatās how we got jar jar and other universally loathed stuff.
I also watched all the episodes over the past 3 days. The plot in Episodes I-III is OK, itās not bad but itās not good either. But I kind of felt like VII-IX were way too over the the top.
Is it Heresy to say that as I get older and more matā¦ Well, maybe just olderā¦ that I realize that as movies thereās maybe only one truly good Star Wars movie (Empire, although Rogue One was a strong effort)? I watched the whole series within the last year with my 13yo stepson. Oof, theyāre all painful. The acting and dialog are bad in just about all of them - save Empire. Lucas is a fantastic world builder and created a pitch-perfect aesthetic for his world. The overall story is also fun. The Star Wars universe is still beyond cool. But some of the nuts and bolts that hold movies together are not particularly strong in the entire series.
I watched WW84 and was quite disappointed.
I am Canadian and soā¦
World Junior Hockey Championship!
I agree, it becomes more apparent in the newer movies, but I would cut older ones some slack.
Will pick up the mandalorian if it gets a 4k box set.
I just watched WW84 again, but at home this time and there are a few things that I have to say. The sound mastering is so different when compared to the cinema. The one in HBOMax felt flat and lack of separation. There are times when the dialogues are just jumbled up with the score. I think there is a problem with the way they mix the sound for the HBOMax version, and I donāt know if I recall this correctly, but Gal Gadotās voice sounds a little off in the HBOMax version.
Now, story writing, I think they could do better on it. It is quite clear that the target audience is for the younger ones. There are so many scenes where the characters are just straight up stating the obvious or just having that early 2000s cheesy dialogues. They could do so much better in term of exploring the charactersā story. I think it felt a little shallow for Max Lord and Barbaraās character. The actorsā performance are really good, but they were all victim to bad screenwriting and weird choreography or CGI. I think Pedro Pascal and Gal Gadotās performance were excellent, but again because of the writing, their performance become lackluster. There are also quite a handful of scenes where they missed the focus point, and it really bothers me. I donāt understand how they could mess this up. It was so apparent especially in the close up shot of Diana at the end scene. It annoyed me so much. Lastly, I think the monologues in this movie are way too long. It often throw away the momentum that they had built. If they cut the monologues shorter, I think the movie would be so much better
Ehh, I wish it was in 1080p, Iād feel much more of a difference than from the sound being in this or that format.
Oh wait, youāre getting 4K? LOL, I have to watch it in something that looks like 720p in Romania. We talking Prime Video streaming in the browser or are there alternate routes?
LE:
Ohhh m*****
f***
ers, itās not a country thing, itās anti-Linux bias from Amazon. Doesnāt work in any of their recommended browsers, Iāll have to try some workaround.
Indiana Jones and the raiders of the lost ark
Noticed that the whole Indiana Jones series is available on a streaming service i subscribe to, so i thought iād watch the 3 first movies, so 1 down, 2 to go
