Abyss DMS mod, but I feel I’ve got more cans than I can utilize them as much as I want. Perhaps a new set of speakers next. . S400
I have been looking at the ZMF dynamic range for a while now so I will end up getting one of those at some point.
The 177X Go also looks interesting for a portable easy to power set of closed backs.
Also I would be interested in a Focal headphone too. Not too sure which one yet.
By the time I get through that lot there will be more companies with more new products that will be enticing me.
Oh man just saw an HE60 (Baby Orpheus) up for sale. So tempting…
It’s really nice, I have one and it sounds great, just make sure it’s in good condition, and also have a better energizer since the stock one isn’t great
Thanks for the heads up. It’s in pretty much prestine condition. I’d imagine would need some kind of adapter to use a different energizer? How would you describe sound signature if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve owned Stax in the past and would like to know if they’re similar in sound.
Starting off with build and comfort, they have a plastic senn build that feels solid enough and are larger than like a hd6xx and the pads are like a hybrid almost, very nice and much better than the meh comfort feels like it will break stax of the l700 and below, but I actually think the build of something like the 007mk2 might be nicer. They do require an adapter, here is where I got mine

Sound wise they really sound very good, almost like a 600 or 650 type sound with way better technicalities to sum it up. They have good balance and bass is actually pretty good. They are wider and have great separation and imaging, impressive spatial recreation. Timbre is great for an estat. Running mine off of a woo 3es elite amp (see my profile for more info like the tubes I have in there and signal chain whatever). I don’t really think they are compatible to lower end stax (they are on a higher tier), I would easily take them over a l700 no question, but the 007mk2 or mrspeakers voce might be a closer comparison. I would throw in the hifiman Jade II but I prefer the 60 to to the Jade II, but the OG Jade might actually outperform it from my experience. It’s not on the level of the he90, he1, Shangri la, Warwick aperio or something, but it is more than respectable. I would include the Sonoma m1 but that’s kinda different being a closed system dsp corrected estat
If you want a more detailed comparison for anything just ask
Sundara (on the way)
Dt880
Dt990
1more triple driver
Esp/95x
Mdr1a
K371 (again)
And the x3’s when they’re released
ZMF Aeolus (Is The LTD any better?)
Ether C(X?) (C vs CX?)
HD800(S?) (Super Dupont Mod vs S?)
The Aeolus & HD800(S) would work great on Tube, the Ether C/CX might not work as well but If I build a Beta 22 then Maybe, that or my tube amp can handle low impedances.
Do consider perhaps the aeon 2 closed imo, I think it’s a step above the either c flow 1.1 (as o sold mine when I got the aeon 2 lol)
Ltd is just prettier, spend the extra and get an Eikon or other ZMF bio dynamic.
Skip the Ether CX, I’ll sell you mine if you really want one, it’s not a bad headphone, but it’s certainly not one I’d recommend, it does some things incredibly well, but it can sound “compressed” at lower volumes (what I’d consider reasonable listening levels).
Can’t comment on the HD800, but I’m treble sensitive, so it’s not appealing to me.
That’s why I immediately preferred the aeon 2, as it somewhat solved the issue while improving everything else imo
Huh so Aeon 2 is better? I have the Aeon Flow Open (The Blue Ones), and as Polygonhell said, I felt them also sounding a bit compressed, something about the bass I think, I still like them though, makes alot of recordings sound nice even if the mastering isn’t all that good.
Still if the 2 is essentially an improvement to the compressed sound and close to the C 1.1, It seems like a no brainier then.
Besides the Aeon’s design is really comfortable for me and I’d imagine the Aeon 2 would be lighter than the Ether so that’s a plus for me.
The Eikon also interested me, since it would be a closed-back headphone that would work great with tubes, so I’d imagine it’d make more apparent the differences in the audio tube rolling would make.
The og aeon is not good lol, the aeon 2 is pretty much a different headphone sound wise
Also I think it exceeds the quality of the c 1.1 lol
Yeah as stated before, the Aeon og are compressed, and without the internal padding can sound anemic in some cases. Still the comfort was really good though and they were light, so the Aeon 2 seems really tempting.
hmmmm. I just want my M40x back.
If we’re strictly talking affordable, I wouldn’t mind revisiting a couple that I sold a while back that the price has dropped on since then. The Audioquest Nighthawk and the Hifiman 400i. Kind of miss them for some reason. If we’re talking tax return money, I am very attracted to those Klipsh haedphones the Z uses alot. But I would really have to get to try them out before spending that kind of money.
well the 400i are cheap now…you can find them for about $175 new I think…and probably a fair bit lower if you buy used
as for the Nighthawk, they’re usually pretty nicely priced on the used market since they’ve been discontinued as well, well, the Carbon’s are still out but the original Nighthawks are disco.
I want RAAL SR1a, STAX SR-003 MK2, AKG K371 and Sennheiser IE 40 Pro.
Already have DT1990, HD800 and STAX L700.
DACs owned: Chord Hugo 2, Chord Mojo, Emotiva TA-100.
