Just goes back to “We all hear differently”.
I think the 660’s were just not that exciting to me. The Sundara’s were good until I put the Ananda’s on.
I really liked how much more open they were.
Thy are good! I just have an addiction problem, (always looking for a better pair). I usually try a few out at a time and keep the ones I like best. I always read about how the 660’s were the go to headphone, but I just wasn’t hearing it.
I haven’t ventured above the $500 price point as of yet. I have listened to some high-end Audezes and Grados though (and the HD800s).
I just tried the 660s on my Jotenheim, and the results are not good. They sound much better on the iFi Zen. Yikes.
Both running balanced.
And even better on my inexpensive Monoprice Hybrid Tube (w/upgraded tubes).
…why the hell did I even get to myself hearing the sounds of these so called headphones? Bower and Wilkins P9s. WTF, someone sent me a sound demo of those and man even though I don’t own these pair, the sounds from it imo, freaking abysmal! like WHY would you even make this?!
Beyerdynamic DT770 80 ohm comes to mind. Way too much harshness and sibilance in the highs, and the bass sounded uncontrolled and bloated. I liked the 250 ohm version though.
Yeah, same reason why I am settling for the 250 Ohms version of the Beyers I am buying, and man if only I could buy the 600 Ohms version but my AMP’s maximum output is not enough to power that up so I am going for the 250 Ohms instead.
LCD4 sounded meh. Really didn’t like them.
And yes, I was powering them properly with a kann cube.
HD800. Most overrated headphones in existence.
What are the bad things about it that makes you create that statement? I am curious to know why, since it is a very pricey can to get.
The mids are way too forward (from 300 hz to 1.5 khz) and then the mids drop off very steeply. Then there is a treble peak around 5 to 6.5 KHz that is so sharp and sibilant. The HD800 still have the widest soundstage I’ve ever heard…but it is so wide that it sounds unnatural.
Aeon Flow Open. Close to no dynamics, mediocre detail retrieval/resolution, and wonky tunning. Bass hump with a recessed presence region and a noticable treble spike. Overall I found them to be overpriced. Build quality and comfort was good.
Hifiman HE-400i Zeos reviewed them a long time ago, “planar bass” he said. Nope they have rolled of bass, nasty 8k spike and shit build quality.
Final Audio D8000. It is like listening to music under water. However, the D8000 Pro is very nice.
