What headphones have you tried and do not like overall?

Meze 99 Classics - Way too much bass, but also an awful peak somewhere in the upper mids.

Beyerdynamic DT 1990 - Awful sounding treble ear rape, no bass to be had. Just no.

Monoprice M1060C - 12 db peak from 1 to 2 khz that creates a shouty vocal. I don’t like being yelled at, thank you.

lol shows me how different tastes can be I love meze’s and the 1990

The Meze surprised me cause I love a good bassy headphone. Those are a different story.

I have a sensitivity to peaks in upper mids and treble. It isnt a problem of tolerating elevated levels as much…it is drastic peaks that actually make me physically ill.

At times, I listen at high volumes, so that can always exacerbate a flaw.

ah makes sense.I like a bit of sparkle up top so I really enjoy them

It’s really all about how drastic a peak and also if there is enough bass to ease/offset the peak.

A great example is the DT 770. I can listen to the 80 ohm version without issue. The 250 ohm version caused me a case of tinnitus. Same source gear (Enog2 Pro and THX 789).

Audio Technica ATH-M50x, Monoprice M560, and HiFiman 400i (w/o EQ), McIntosh MHP-1000 come to mind.

for me it’s all about the presentation if it has a wide soundstage or air about it I can stand a good amount of treble like the 990’s which I love. but if its agressive about the trebl;e like a pair of m50x, the m570 I can’t stand it

I don’t like any of the T50-RP3 variants I’ve tried, I probably need to give them another longer listen. But I don’t like the bass to mid range transition.

seems to be an issue many people have compained about? have you tried argons? curious what you think about those

You probably wouldn’t enjoy most studio tuned headphone then actually, as they all kinda have exaggerated transitions

I’ve only heard me whining about it. A lot of people seem to like them.
I haven’t tried any of the more aggressive Mods including the Argons.

Maybe it’s a coming from speakers thing, I think as I’ve said they remind me of a speaker with a badly tuned bass/mid crossover.

HyperX Cloud (Takstar Pro 80): boosted bass @150hz makes music boomy but a bit muddy, recessed mids @1k makes vocals withdrawn, and a gigantic dip at 4.3k that takes off alot of the enjoyment and the edge out of music, also the details, the treble can also be piercing on ceratain music.

Panasonic HJE125: very cheap, they make sound happen, big bass-low mid boost @6db at 200hz makes music boring to listen to and bass overly boomy and muddy but ye I mean they are like 10 bucks.

Appe EarPods: No subbass… at all, a 6db peak at 2k makes alot of music painful to listen to, and gets fatiguing really fast, and a 6k peak of 6-7db that makes music boring and annoying.

makes a lot of sense i fyour coming from speakers or car audio and such as unlike personal audio hear especially headphones they have multiple drivers in charge of different frequencies. while in headphones it just one per ear

I’ve been through a lot lately and the ones I returned/sold pretty quickly were:

Audeze LCD-1
FOSTEX TR-X00 Mahogany
Sendy Avia
E-Mu Rosewoods
HIFIMAN HE5se
HIFIMAN SUNDARA
Senheiser 660S
and more…

Probably should list what I did like and kept:
HiFIMAN Ananda
Beyer Dynamic DT 1990 Pro
Argon MK3
Grado RS2e

It’s all subjective as all ears hear different.

Can I ask what you didn’t like about the TR-X00’s and HD660’s?

I liked the TR-X00s at first until I then tried the DT 1990 pro’s.

HD 660S’s I just felt bored by their sound.

Thanks, I was just curious.

Out of curiosity what did u dislike about the 660 and sundara?

I just picked up a pair of 660s and I love them. It think they sound true to life/realistic. Without EQ I find Beyerdynamic and Grado headphones way to bright/peaky. I guess I like boring. Haha.
