What headphones have you tried and do not like overall?

Was thinking the same thing, but don’t want to derail this thread too much as I have a habit of doing that so I’ll post a topic about this or just look at some existing topics.

A fellow Beyer T5P owner, NICE!!!
I love those cans and depending of I am home alone or not, they or the 1990 are my daily drivers.

I liked and respected the T5’s, but didn’t love them. I do Love them with the Cavalli LCX. And right now I have them hooked up to a SMSL SP200 amp via a Schiit Loki and I am Really impressed.

Mixing and matching lets you find little gems that you already had.

Yeah, I have mine to a Monolith THX Dac/amp and they sound great. The Beyer clarity and detail seems to work great with THX, so I am completely onboard with what you are saying.

The Neumann NDH20. I hated this headphone lol. sounded muffled, wooly, stuffy, just awful. i dont understand why people like this headphone. Zeos loves it lol, i just dont get it.

In order of purchase i started with:
Grado SR225e - Unmpressive, sent back
Sennhieser 600 - Impressive, but i hated the veil, sent back
Sennheiser 650 - Unimpressive, boring, sent back
Hifiman Sundara - Impressive but too much air, sent back
Superlux HD 681 - Impressive, but lacking fidelity. why are we talking about Koss when we have these? sent back
Monoprice Retro - Awful, sounded muffled and wooly, stuffy just like the Neumann NDH20, sent back
Philips SHP9500 - Ok, but headband too loose, easy to distort, sent back
NAD - VISO HP50 - impressive but lacking, sent back
Fostex T50rp - impressive but lacking. Sending in to convert to Argons
Blon B20’s - Sound just like the Aiva but a little less, sent back
M570 - Defective, sent back

Kept the Sendy Aiva, Focus Elex, Koss 95x

what does wooly mean? I’ve never heard that as a discriptive term for sound before

I can’t speak to his headphone, but I would describe the HE4XX’s as “wooly”. To me it means muffled and lack of clarity. It is the polar opposite of crisp, clear and clean.

That would be my definition. YMMV.

Merriam-Webster Definition: lacking in clearness or sharpness of outline

Only the Tin T2 Pros for me. Tin T2s (Non-pro) sound great. I thought the Micca MB42s were a bit disappointing, but the RB42s are a big win.

(didn’t mean this as a reply directly to antpage…) =P

Ah ok makes sense. Also what was defective with the m570

Lol, exactly my fears, and why I have not bought these!

The Nad HP50s were lacking in what? Detail, bass/treble extension?

they where pretty good, but i could feel their limit, and other headphones where better. they didnt really have that wow factor. and the cups where too small

DT 770 Pro (250Ohm Version)
They sound good, they feel good, there is just something off with them.
I find something lacking, not in a missing sense, but in a bland sense.

I can totaly see why anyone would use them for recording or mastering. For a daily driver or casual listening headphone, big nope.

Honestly and a big nope for mixing and mastering from me. I think the dt880 600 ohm would be more suitable for mixing and mastering. The 770 is more monitoring and tracking to me

DT177X would probably be the best of the Beyers for mastering, but yeah, twice the price even on black friday.

I think the 1990 is the most suitable for mastering imo (but the 880 600 ohm is right on it’s heals), but they aren’t really that ideal. I would rather use something like an audio technica r70x at this price range lol

I’m usually pretty forgiving with headphones as I like variety, but the more I try from a single manufacturer that I dislike, the less open minded I am towards them. Unpopular choices here, but I probably wouldn’t buy another Beyerdynamic or Audeze without serious convincing.

I still have my 770 250 ohm, but there is a lot of talk about a stealth retuning on these. It’s a headphone many people love, and I just don’t get it. I bought it over the summer from Drop for $130 so it’s not like I was expecting the sun and moon from it, but in my opinion it may as well have been a “gaming” headphone in terms of build quality and sound. Just not a fan. I borrowed a 250ohm 880 and listened for a good 2 months. My friend wanted $100 for it, and I didn’t want them at that price. In fairness, I’ve never heard the 600ohm. The 1990 is the only headphone I’ve ever returned. I burned them in and tried the Oratory EQ but they just weren’t for me. None of the Beyers were comfortable to me, and that’s at least part of it, but I’d need a lot of convincing to buy another one.

As for Audeze, my first high-end headphone purchase was an LCD-XC. The right driver died on my first pair within 2 weeks, and the replacement pair was obviously used/B stock that they tried to pass off as new. That left a bad taste for me. I’ve borrowed a 2c, 3, and demoed a 4 for a few weeks. With EQ, I can get Audeze’s to sound good to me. I am fine with that for a single model or two, but to me if I need to EQ your entire line you’re doing something wrong. I guess I’m just not a fan of either’s house sound. Part of me would like an LCD4, but not at the current price. I would be more open minded at $2500-$3000. I haven’t tried the Rossons, but they may be an option if the detail retrieval is similar. The fact that I’ve never enjoyed having Beyers or Audezes on my head is a major factor as well. I should be able to check out the LCD1s in a couple weeks, and they seem to be more comfortable than the rest of the line, so maybe they are working on it

Yeah, it seems like the beyer house sound, build, and presentation just aren’t for you lol

Also I can vouch for the rossons I like my pair and I think they are a good audeze alternative

what was wrong with the m570 specifically so i can look for it in my pair? that should be coming soon

sounded very veiled, lacking. i think this may be a problem with some as monoprice accepted the return right away np.

or it could be they were not defective and just sound shitty compared to the b20 and aiva. but i doubt it since zeos review:
