What Is happening?! M1570, M1070, M570 from Monoprice THX AAA 887 Too!

I was clearly referring to hifiman, you should try some of their planars at one point :+1:

If you like a bit darker sound the edition xx from massdrop is pretty nice (although I canā€™t tell if you like a darker sound or not)

Thereā€™s another post on here somewhere where I also dislike hifiman. Think the only way Iā€™d be able to buy them Audā€¦ that brandā€¦ is by changing my name and going into witness protection.

Iā€™m not the biggest fan of dark no, but it is starting to grow on me a bit. Always preferred a bit more bright or a wonky v shape. Bought the phantoms to try out planar.

Hifman does do good bright and wonky v shape headphones pretty well imo

Also I donā€™t remember seeing that post tho

HE6-SE on a normal amp pretty much meets this description.

Lol, you are probably right. Although I was thinking of the ananda for bright and the he5 for wonky v shape, but I hadnā€™t considered an underpowered he6 lol

Although personally I donā€™t know if I would call an underpowered he6 pleasurable through my experience

But yeah All in all, I dont think my Eikon has enough of a bass shelf for me. Its a good headphone, but Im gonna be A/Bing the HE6SE and this a lot on wednesday. (I really liked the oratory eq for the HE6-SE to make it follow that harman curve)

And in terms of punch you in the head bass?

Suspect the answer is gonna be Fostex dynamics but just want to see whatā€™s out there in planar land

Guess i might get them tomorrow. Depends on if fedex feels like updating me. LOL

Consolidation of thoughts so far.

I got mine in yesterday and here are my first impressions

Build

  • Headband has been comfortable and build seems good, the stock cable is actually quite nice. The stock cable is not as soft as a periapt etcā€¦ but is a non-issue

  • Only weird build quality things are as follows: mini-xlr pinout may be nonstandard, one earcup has more friction/resistance to earcup rotation than the other side, you seem to be able to extend the earcups until they gets off track from the mechanism in the headband. Otherwise materials are well done, the headphone is all metal/protein leather.

  • Stock velour pads are not angled and much worse quality than the leather/protein leather ones pre-applied to the headphones.

  • Stock spacing for the headband may be too wide for the heads of some, so some users may have to bend the top headband to get more clamping force on their ears and get a better seal.

  • May be important! The mini-xlr pinout seems to be nonstandard, when I try the ZMF OFC Cable on my THX 788 AMP it triggers overcurrent protection, it remains to be seen if this persists with an actual balanced cable, but I assume this is the case.

Sound

  • I have yet to find a flaw, these seem to be jacks of all trades but masters of none. Bass is well extended, but doesnt hit super hard like HE6-SE etcā€¦ but I imagine you could EQ it to do what you want. I havenā€™t noticed any peaks or sibilance.

  • Dynamics are actually pretty good for headphones at this price point.- seems to follow the harman curve, with a bit less of a bass shelf.

  • Imaging has been solid, and the soundstage was wider than I expected. The isolation is essentially non existent and the pads are quite wide so I imagine its the combination of those two things making that happen.

  • Sound is slightly dark.

  • I am also intrigued to see how they do w/ more power, but IT appears I may have to get a pinout from monoprice and make a cable myself to do so.

I think they are worth the money, but to really determine what they are I need to do more listening.

I think my wonky v description should be more an almost formed w shapeā€¦

Focal elex? Thatā€™s a mild w shape thatā€™s a pretty great headphone for the price, but itā€™s not a bass monster or anything

So now the Monoprice M570, M1070, Sendy Aiva, Sundara, Verum 1, and Blon B20 fit in the $350-$500 ish range for open-back planars. Since planars are probably my next big purchase, Iā€™m gonna have my work cut out to pick one. Brain hurts.

There is also the lcd1 which is very good as well

Yeah I am eyeing that one next when the price drops again. That will go up against my 6xx. Might decide to keep both.

Think my phantomā€™s actually have room in my collection. Dark headphones to use when sipping whiskey.

Then get a loki for my Sony XM2 or just buy Fostex.

So I really donā€™t know if I will be buying these anymoreā€¦

So many options, so many things to research lol

M1570ā€™s have arrived.

  • Un-boxing experience was poo.
  • Case is poo.
  • Secondary pad set are poo.
  • Cable is quite nice. Easily comparable to periapt for cable quality and thickness and motion. Split is smaller in diameter which is nice. Prefer a lighter cable personally but will work on that for later.
  • CHONKY
  • Did I meantion CHONKY
  • Initial sound impressions. Really enjoyable. 5 songs in and I can say 0 regrets for the price. Will expand on this after some dinner and a quick vape session. Going to come back and set up the elex and sendyā€™s on the table with these.
