What is your favorite sound signature?

I watched that video and it’s comprehensive for both beginners and veteran audio enthusiasts.

BRIGHT YO! altho when using headphones after some time it’s too fatiguing. but really listening to them bright is my fav for sure

Okay, I know what I don’t like (V-shape), now to figure out what I prefer…

Also: If someone could write a nice comprehensive guide on audio terminology, that would be very apreciated.

It’s out there. Here’s one:

This page has a helpful graph relating terms to frequency response curves:

That circles back to another thread about the role of measurements. For speakers and headphones, the frequency response curve will answer about 90% of what you can expect them to sound like, but it won’t answer all of it. For example, for the DT990, the graph will indicate that they have a V signature, but it’s harder to pull out that the treble has that “metallicy” quality many hear.

I voted “V”, but I don’t think my preference is a “deep V” so to speak. I slight treble boost adds some life, and a bump in the subbass for me.

Does the elex have a W signature? I think W is what I like the treble, mid-range and bass slightly up, maybe 15% I don’t like V shaped, I like my mid-range

That is a good description. Most cans that are described as “V” have more of a U shaped curve anyway, IMO. However, as you say, I do prefer a “U” with the bass side possibly a little bit higher than the treble.

I personally like a more W shape I liek my mids boomy bass nand a bit of treble sizzle. but not so much they bleed into each other.

This is a good frequency sweeper.

all but warm or dark - the only exception is my wy wifes Koss Porta Pro with Yaxi Pads

the rest depends on mood and genre I listen to

w shaped is nice
I miss my mid forward HD 600 sometimes
u shaped is ok - v shaped not so

Loaded question i have personally been contemplating and referencing as i make each new more substantive and costlier purchase. Also, as my ears, mind and ability to discern smaller and smaller details become better trained and experienced my attitude about what i enjoy and dislike becomes more fickle. My tastes and appreciation of music and quality have also refined which seems to play a major role in my enjoyment or lack thereof.

yeah I can see why people express disdain on V-shaped sound signatures, the bass is rather too much for them or the trebles are just simply murderous. I guess that is why I prefer Neutral and Balanced sound signatures more but I guess with the right mood, I can like the V-shapes from time to time

And it isn’t that I usually love a huge v shape. I guess I do like some headphones that have a big V shape, but I usually only like a slight V shape, just a little more focus on the bass and treble, with the mids dialed back just a little bit.

This one.

I prefer a warm U shape, which explains why I am so picky.
