Yeah, i know, and i’ve ripped my not so grand collection of 200+ CDs to flac, so buying a CD is not a concept im unfamiliar with
The point though was that i wanted to buy the album digital go get it right away, and they will only sell me mp3s, not flac. But, if i was living in the UK flac would be available, and that is just not customer friendly at all.
I could probably get away with it using a vpn - unless they check where my credit card is coming from…but its the principle that flac availability is geo blocked so to speak that nags me
yeahh I understood and know the problem
maybe the regulations will be changed like with pay tv - for example I use Sky Go and Netflix in germany. Since last year I can use Sky Go also in poland or elswhere in europewhen I am on holidays
a vpn was long a solution for this but every seller is different. Some check also the credit card geo position and some not. Best example is “hulu”. First a vpn was enough. Now you need a fitting credit card.
There are “prepaid” credit cards(lots of young people use these) you can buy - this could help you
Almost all of my FLAC files are ripped by me, from CDs that I bought mostly between the late 80s and mid 00s. At different points I created mp3 and ogg files for use on DAPs and PCs over the years, but always kept the FLAC files on external drives.
At some point I assume that streaming services will make this pointless,
unless the awful internet providers make it nearly a requirement.
