Speaking of talented Norwegians, her name is Rebekka Nilsson, and I’m in love with her.

This is a bad recording but I love this song:
Covering Dylan’s “Señor, Tales of Yankee Power.”

Flor turns out to have been the most famous person I’d never heard of. I only learned about her from chatting on social media with northern European metal heads. Not my genre, but holy crap she can sing!
@dcofficehack If you want to hear Floor do a more traditional style, ck out her performances on Beste Zangers. (Netherlands, I believe.) Also Elizabeth (The Charismatic Voice) has reviews of her and also Aurora.
Imagine if Floor did an album of something completely different. Say, Joni Mitchell covers. Might be a disaster. But might also be awesome.
I’d guess awesome, lol!
Dammit, now I’m checking out “The Charismatic Voice.” Another distraction (I’m supposed to be working!). Please to be validated re: Aurora. She hears what I hear: something natural sounding yet totally deliberate and controlled; something almost childlike yet sophisticated. Oh, and I dig Elizabeth’s DT 770s.
Hee hee. She really knows her stuff and is fun to watch. And yeah, Aurora is quite unique.
I would never have heard of her if it weren’t for the Tiny Desk Concert series from NPR. Amazing stuff. Many of their acts I’ve never heard before, and mostly it’s paired down, sort of like the old MTV Unplugged series. Thus Aurora alone with a guitar, no band.
Like this, which made a Lizzo fan out of me:
And if you’re up for something completely wonderful and different:
Oh, and here’s one of my new favorite female singers:
That’s both unusually impressive and unpleasant to listen to.
Changing mood: The legendary Sandy Denny (best known for singing backup in Zeppelin’s Battle of Evermore)
It’s a fantastic series these NPR tiny desk concerts.
Maybe we should start a separate thread for favorite Tiny Desk Concerts?
@leafmulch @Onaha…This is still my fav, I have posted it on listening to tonight a few times
Yeah it’s my fave too. Man-size is my favourite track of hers, but that whole album kicks arse.
In 5 min (9 cdt) The Charismatic Voice is doing a review with Morgan James.
