Why is it that the audiophile community is mostly male?

Not here my other half can use all my audio paraphernalia with my blessing but she can’t be arsed lol…and yes she’s listened to every ss/tube/headphone and iem configuration…she be like :headphones::sleeping:

my better half does appreciate good audio…and while most of you will poopoo her primary choice, she really likes the Bose SoundSport Wireless, these are a well reviewed IEM…a gem in Bose’s line up to be honest. my issue is they’re not cheap and they seem to only last about a year before needing replacement. I’ve bought her 3 sets in the 3 years we’ve been married. her first one’s stopped charging and I replaced them…and since she runs the battery low, I bought a second set for her to swap between to ease the wear n tear and one of the earbuds just stopped working yesterday.

I’m going to have to find her something better that’s more affordable…since it won’t suffer from the Bose tax. :stuck_out_tongue:

Can’t tell if serious, so:

If we could leave the shouting match “arguments” of the numerous extremists at the log-in screen, that would be great!

this is a happy forum Maze…take everything with a grain of salt as it’s 99.99% tongue-in-cheek

Maybe I have been ruined in the IRC days and how most discussions on forums these days just turns into camp A VS camp B mud slinging.

/jk and /s are nice to indicate jokes and sarcasm for the people as dense (and German) as I am.

Lol yeah I don’t really take many things seriously as well, so just expect a fair amount of things that seem strange with a grain of salt

My wife does. She puts on my headphones and has them sized up way better than I do. She simply just doesn’t care. :grinning:

This seems to be the case.

My wife refuses to use anything but earbuds like those apple earpods that came with old iPhones. I’ve put on her head things like hd6xx / argons / Audiofly / Tin IEMs or Koss stuffs but she still prefer the apple earpods out of convenience. I ended up getting her those $5 VE monks and she’s happy. Lol

Tbh I wouldn’t mind if you’re whether a boy, girl, an attack helicopter or a dinosaur. As long as you’re enjoying this hobby of yours, you are welcome here in full open arms.

years ago I bought my wife a BT On Ear the Marshall MID BT and she loved it for the cool look ,vspahed sound and portability
than I got her the 58x and Fiio BTR3 + Koss Porta Pros with orange Yaxi Pads - she loves these 3 units and uses them almost every day

she uses our old stationary headphone DAC/Amp SMSL M6 connected to an old 7.1 Reciever in a 2.1 setup every day in our home-office … switches from headphones to speakers, changes adapters and so on

she earlier than me realized how the 1990s really are and dislikes closed backs like our Elegia, 770s and her old Marshall MID BT

she would have gone to a 4 day trip with me to heidelberg, where I wanted to test the ZMF portfolio and RAAL, but we both got sick after Oktoberfest… so cancelled the trip and will go there in spring next year - so that is quite cool of her - because I would have been a hole day and evening away with other sound nerds on a meet

she´s cool with all my hobbys and participates in most of like photography(is way more than a hobby for us), bushcraft(we have a hidden camp in the alps with some friends) , EDC stuff(pens, tools, flashlights, knives) and audio

she would never go on a forum or search for reviews on a topic
her stuff has to be comfortable, cool looking, not to bulky and easy to use - soundquality and preferences in fr are like “good enough is ok” and a tad warmish with good low end please

but unless our dog gets enough fun times outdoors with us she is happy - so am I
she has a sneaker tick - like a few walls full of

I thinks guys always need toys and a new next project
women need more socialising than we do instead or another kind of like we are ok with - if that makes any sense

I mean my mom enjoys listening to all my stuff but at the same time gets pissed when she figures out what I spend on it, but my aunt actually really enjoys this stuff and has a nice collection as well. My dad, uncles, grandpas, they are all into this stuff, but I would say a decent amount of the girls of my family enjoy it too

Lol this year old video just got recommended to me on YouTube.

It’s reasonably simple IMO. Men are more into things that stimulate the senses. Women are more into things that play to the emotions. While music certainly should evoke emotion, the technical gear part of it is mostly going to be a male pursuit. Not always but in general.

That’s an easy one, because the hobby tends to attract nerdy guys.

My opinion is that females tend to prefer group oriented activities more, plus they might like listening through speakers and IEM as headphones could get tangled in their hair or is too bulky for them.

My sister has no problem listening through headphones or IEM when doing chores, but she doesn’t go in the rabbit hole that is HiFi as she’s content with any good pair. I noticed this in high school, but it’s the guys who always had headphones and girls were content with normal apple or samsung headphones I think it had to do with them not caring about the change in sound quality that much and the fact that they liked small and portable stuff more. Now in Uni I find the gap even wider. They don’t care at all it seems, it’s cool and how much is it ? and that’s that from the, when I say this cost 200$ (0_0) ! they just don’t take the plunge we do as we don’t spend 500$ on makeup and outings each week/month.

I would say that most of the time if you are really into audio it can be a group oriented activity with lots of conversation (like right now lol)

Also being serious I have not had someone have any crazy reactions when they ask about audio and ask what I have, it’s been more like “oh, that’s pretty cool”. I have had people get a little crazy after listening to something good and getting hooked. At least if you become a dealer in this hobby it’s perfectly fine to get high on your own supply lol

Yeah, but if your close friends aren’t into it due to the huge investment they have to make in order to enjoy it and prefer something else what else can you say. I think it’s a matter of preference between individuals who wish to further pursue and those content with what they have ,and thus we latter congregate and meet in sites like these, each of us are miles apart yet connected by this interest.

That’s true for sure. I guess I was mainly just wondering how you are saying it differs from gender to gender

It’s probably self sustaining.
It’s largely Male dominated, so it tends to stay that way.
I don’t know how other people got into “HiFi” but for me 20+ years ago my friends at University were into it. If I hadn’t been in that social circle I’m not sure I’d have gotten into it in the same way.
I suspect many people end up in the hobby because their friends are into it.

Lol yup, friends and family can really bring people into the hobby for sure. I probably would have found my way here at some point, but my family made sure to introduce and push me into this hobby at a young age lol
