XDUOO XD-05 vs XDUOO XD-05 Plus

I can agree my DT1990 sounds fuller with the V5i…

Oh yea, fuller is a good way to summarize my impressions!

The gist of my impressions regarding a purchase decision is:

If you have something tonality similar to the DT 1990 Pro absolutely GET the V5i !

If you have something similar to the 58X i would PASS on the V5i.
(But to be honest I am not sure if this is something that can be extended to the whole 600 series because i would guess that the 58X are just not sophisticated enough to show the potential of the V5i)

My biggest surprise after installing the burson v5i was not the sound improvement (i can hear a bit more of the sound, the treble is reigned back for the better, the bass slams a tad more, better dynamics and a tiny bit more imaging.) The BIGGEST improvement for me was the functionality of the opamp. With stock op amp, it felt like I was locked down on the xd05+ up to basically the 1/2 o clock on low gain. But with the burson, all 3 gain levels are ACTUALLY useable along with more useable volume level (across all 3 gains).

Was actually skeptical whether such small things would make much change, but was pleasantly surprised (not just by the sound but mainly by the power regulation of the opamp). This opamp to me, seems to really change the entirety of xd05+. The dac/amp’s primary selling point was its power, and with the stock opamp this was regulated poorly, which basically just hinders this unit and makes it not really operate at its max capability. The burson v5i rectifies Xduoo’s mistake and my initial assessment of this unit of “pretty good” became really fucking good.

So, this is a new one. The “Xd-05 Basic”. It’s now available for even cheaper than the original xd-05 and it’s Class A!

But the best part is the switch that allows you to power it with the battery or external power only, really making it a “desktop dac” now, when needed, without having to worry about batteries (or interferences or diminished sound quality when charging).

Xduoo said on ig that xduoo xd-05 basic doesn’t have a build in bluetooth, so you still need to buy 05bl pro or cheaper model. https://www.instagram.com/p/CFOLZJ7Jaiu/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet

Thanks for the info. Even the DROP page says it has bluetooth 5.0…!

Their promotional images say “Extend Blueooth 5.0”, though – but it just means you need the module.

Is it class A or class A/B? The website says “OP+class A” which sounds like A/B if I’m not mistaken.

I took a look at the xd-05 plus’ page and is says it uses the OPA1612 for the “single amp chip” and the BUF634U for the “circuit amp chip”. I can’t find the same kind of specs for the Basic.

For that price, I don’t expect it to sound like Class A anyways. :stuck_out_tongue:

This is the one installed in the XD-05 plus. Which I changed for the Burson V5i

That’s the op amp, or what xduoo call the “single amp chip”. I’m just confused as to if the Basic uses a different “circuit amp chip” from the original and plus since neither mention class A in their specs (that I found) but the Basic does.

Maybe @MazeFrame could clarify what “OP+class A” means exactly?

I would asume that means an Op-Amp functions as an input stage to a Class-A amplification circuit.

The OPA1612 is a common Op-Amp in audio products. The BUF634A can be used to run diretly of an Op-Amp to power larger switching elements (or headphones) like shown in the datasheet:

I have a question here. So im pretty much set up on my desk but i also want something to take with me to the couch bed that is able to power my headphones properly.
I wanted to buy an Xduoo XD05 Plus for about 150€ slightly used but i got my money back because its apparently not working anymore. New it is 250€.
I found it on ebay and thought i give it a try since i have seen a few people in here satisfied with it. Not sure if its still worth 250€ new or if there are other recommendations…
I want to be able to power Focal Clears and Beyerdynamic T1.2 with it ( mainly).
i think its cool that it has desktop power but is still portable.
Is it still a recommendation?

I have the original and it is very nice. Has multiple inputs, has plenty of power, swappable op-amps, is built great, has a full 1/4 inch jack headphone out, a great volume knob, and sounds great. From what I hear the plus is even better, so it is probably worth it.

I still use my Plus on a regular basis when OTG. Depending on the need, it is either my M11 or the Plus I use and the Plus has so much power, so it is something special.

If I am staying out at a hotel, I take the Plus as it can be used for both HP’s and IEM’s. I have bought the Burson op-amp and that is also a no-brainer, as the sound improves.

If I was to buy a portable dac/amp again, the Xduoo Xd-05 Plus would be my choice again; I don’t see any contender to what it offers in power, inputs (BT…), sound and build quality.

Sounds good guys! I guess I will go for it. Like you said, haven’t seen anything else that competes in this price range.

Drop has it for $210
I don’t think theres a better price for it.
Of course you need to wait a while to get it and will likely get the wrong color. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::rofl::joy:

Nah Drop is not an option for this because im in europe. With shipping, taxes and customs its in more expensive compared to just buy it from amazon here. . a big problem with many of the cool products from the usa…
