šŸ”¶ ZMF Aeolus

The dac I just bought sounds very uncolored, it just sounds the closest to real life that I have heard. My spring2 is not that way and more colored by design

If you wanted a relatively clean and affordable r2r, the soekris 1421

Most of my music is electronic and heavily produced. not sure how it would go with that.

Delta Sigma DAC, it what the ESS, 44XX etc DACā€™s use.
Basically you oscillate a single bit on and off and then filter the output.
Itā€™s very much like how class D amps work.

Everything Iā€™m reading on other forums seems to point that r2r is generally cleaner and more analytical that delta sigma. The main caveat I see is the absence of being able to use dsd. But again, Iā€™m a dac newbie. But mine sounds good  ha

The dsd implementation is just bad on my spring2 kte, so I just convert dsd to pcm and it sounds great lol

Of all the gear I have, Iā€™ve still never heard dsd :flushed: haha. Am I missing out?

Not really, the main benefit of a dsd is the better mastering when they were released on SACD

Ahhhhhh I see. I just use tidal. Works good enough for me. Oooooh the mqa doors and Fleetwood Mac songs on there blew me away. Mqa is pretty comparable to dsd yeah?

Doesnt DSD have higher bitrate and frequency?

If DSD had taken off as a format, DACā€™s would be so much simpler.

Not really, I am not the greatest fan of mqa, I personally think a traditional lossless file sounds better. DSD is fundamentally different from PCM audio

DSD64 is 1bit 2822400hz

Yeah pretty true

Itā€™s not comparable.
Basically DSD is 1 bit but at high frequency, it contains no more information.
The advantage is really in the ADC part of the recording process, it makes sense to leave it in that format hence DSD, but it never really got any traction.

Iā€™m so far out of my element. Iā€™ve wanted to buy the thriller dsd album so so long ha. Maybe Iā€™ll jump on it when my Aeolus comes in ha.

Theres so few rock and pop albums on DSD. the only album i saw online was a David Bowie album. Unless you want to buy a SACD and rip it.

Here is a picture of my Blackwood Aeolus.
Which is still in my opinion one of the best, if not the best all around headphone currentlyā€¦outside of TOTL headphones that is.

My name finally went onto the build list!. I was kinda bummed because I thought it would really take forever there were 19 on the list without me even on it yet, however when it updated today, almost all of those moved into the QC status, which basically makes me hopeful that mine are being started since Iā€™m now the second ā€œpending on the list. Wooo woooooooooo!

Let me know how the eikon compare to the Aeolus! I want to get either an eikon or auteur next. When I can convince myself to drop that much again haha. Wish I had the courage to drop on 2 pairs at once! Totally jelly! Haha
