Holy mutherloving fukballs I dig these. Just picked up set of these and a pair of Oriās ā¦having fun bouncing back and forth to planar and messing with pads. Betwix 3 x Cans a hybrid tube amp and pads I oughta have plenty of sound choice now. Had to tighten and lock-tight some of the hardware- got them used and one of the mounting screws fell into the cup within first 10 minutes of trying them out which scared me shitlessā¦ lock picking set aided in the recovery then watch all the ZMF videos for good measure and cleaned everything up and tightened down with lock-tight.
I second that (comment above about original pads) with some slight tubishness the stock pads are where I am going to live. ZMF pad guide is pretty spot on which I appreciateā¦realized this prior to exporing the case and finding their handy diagram.
Thanks for the insight folks! There isnāt too much consensus on pads which is actually pretty cool. Iām guessing all the uni pads sound great with subtle differences so Iāll grab a few and take the journey. Much appreciated!
For the love of god how did you get it out. This literally just happened to me, though mine I got new in April, so not sure how that got so lose, though I do listen to these a lot.
But please please, how did you get it out. Iād really appreciate the help
step 0 - Obtain thin and long potentially magnetic doohickey to assist in pull through
step 1 - hold above head (so you know gravity)
step 2 - gently giggle (this sounds dirty) and locate screw
step 3 - orient screw in same position it was able to fall in and finesse part out of can using doohicky
That I think takes some skill. I opened it up from the front in and went in the dirty way, though weāre all safe and sound, just need a new rubber gasket and itās back like new.
The magnesium chassis - typically will wear like any other electroplated finish, you just canāt anodize it because itās not porous like aluminum. Most owners of magnesium chassis never have a finish issue, but like anything thatās plated, over time if not babied it will show wear. Some find the lesser weight to be worth it and some not, so we offer both the more durably finished aluminum for those who would prefer that option over the magnesium on any of our headphones.
Iām waiting eagerly for my aeolus to move up the spreadsheet. How are you fellow spreadsheeters passing the time?
I know the headphones will arrive when they arrive, and the spreadsheet is most likely not updated in real time; still I find some entertainment in tracking the changes. Noting who gets taken off the list, whether they ordered Sapele or Cocobolo, grille/rod customizations, etc. helps pass the time for me.
The enjoyment will wear out quickly. Been thinking a lot about the current ZMF business model and itās just not very customer friendly and it would need a major revamp before I purchase another product from them.
120 days and counting with literally weeks upon weeks of zero movement on the list. When I purchased the site said 6 to 8 weeks wait time. Now thatās been updated to 6 to 12 weeks when myself and Iām sure a number of people behind me are currently pushing the 18 week mark.
$1400 dollars times fortysomeodd people on the list is a long time to keep someoneās cash without even an email as to why the headphones youāve been waiting for are taking the length of time theyāre taking to make.
Iāve purchased made to order speakers before and they took $300 dollars up front and charged the rest when they were ready to ship and they updated me at multiple times during the process as to where they were in manufacturing and the ETA of when theyād ship.
ZMF might have worked fine but clearly theyāve outgrown the process and need a major rethink of the ordering process.
I do not intend on this being a dig because I know the reputation the headphones have and they quality of work they seem to put into making them, strictly constructive commentary as I said, I wouldnāt be able to order something else from them given the same process.
I think you have to cut them some slack given the times. You ordered them during a pandemic knowing theyāre a small company producing hand crafted headphones out of a house. I believe theyāve moved to a more suitable facility now but that move also had to take place during this pandemic. Unforeseen to say the least.
The whole point of the list (granted they donāt update it regularly which is also no secret) is so that they donāt have to email the fortysomeodd people (keep in mind thatās only only one of their many lists). Also feel free to email them, which I have multiple times, and theyāll be more than happy to communicate with you and give you an update.
Just have patience and try to put it all into perspective man. The customer service Iāve received from ZMF is among the best Iāve had from any company. And believe me the product is well worth your patience.
Like I said, this isnāt a dig but if youāre asking me to cut them some slack then I donāt think you digested my post before responding. Itās a great product but to grow as a business, to take the next step. I believe theyāll need to revamp the business model.
