Hi, what a wonderful setupā€¦ I see the big Bryston amp back there. Have you tried the Aeolus with a tube amp? If yes, which you liked more with this headphone? I have the RME ADI2 DAC and I am saving for a ZMF headphone (Aeolus or Atticus). And I donā€™t know if I will go solid state or tube for the next stepā€¦
Thanks.

All ZMF headphones are supposed to sound really good on tubes, but donā€™t need them necessarily. From what I have read both the Atticus and Aeolus will both do really well on ss amps, so if you plan on getting other headphones I think you are good to pick whatever seems best for you. All the ZMFs scale with the quality of the source, tube or ss, so get yourself something you are happy with

edit: tubes get really expensive if you let them

Yeah, its probably the warmer tuning that makes them good on ss. I know about tubes. I have and I had experience on speakers setup for years. Even I have a tube CD player with some nos Siemens tubes on it which are really rare and expensive. Now I am building slowly and surely a good headphone setup as I am working abroad and size mattersā€¦ Here in Europe unfortunately we are paying more for these headphones and we donā€™t have the opportunity to give them a listen in most countriesā€¦ But anyhow the candidates are these, and I donā€™t believe I will feel disappointed after the purchase. Thank you for the suggestion also

My Sennheiser HD 600s are my current favorite tube headphones. If the Aeolus and Verite both improve this I will be very happy

For me the HD650. And I hope the same.

Iā€™m really digging these with the universe leather pads. I switched back to these today, and am in general getting more of a kick out of them than the suede ones, anyone else have a similar opinion? Iā€™m not sure Iā€™ve seen people choose these as a favorite. Seems more like suede is like 95%, stock aeolus 4% and maybe one guy or two like the verite pads overall. Not that any of them are bad (stock ainā€™t my thing, though).

ordered these 10 days ago. does anyone know how long they take to build them right now?

Also is there a grill mod for these? I dont like the black grill. anything else would be better

2-5 weeks around this time according to their website.

I know that on the limited wood Aeolus you can specify what grill to use. I donā€™t know if thatā€™s possible or offered for the standard Aeolus, however.

If you ordered one of the discounted ones from November it should ship in the next week or two. I ordered a LTD blackwood one at the end of October and it will be shipping this week or next

no i asked but was denied! i understand why though. they are custom making these headphones and it might not be cost effective to start doing custom grills. I would have gotten a ltd edition but i didnt like the burl and didnt want to wait.

i canceled that order and got the regular sapele version. the thing about these headphones is the sound and how incredible it is, i really didnt want to mess with that.

Looking for a fun, smooth sounding headphone. Which one is better choice? These or Klipsch HP-3?

Iā€™ve warmed up to the sound of the stock aeolus pads (no pun intended). Definitely the most relaxing/smoothest out of the choices. Itā€™s pretty nice, when youā€™re in the mood for that.

Iā€™ve not heard the Klipsch HP-3, but you really canā€™t go wrong with these tbh.

Just got a messege from ZMF that my order shipped today!

So from order to now it took about 15 days or 2 weeks. not to bad

That is very quick for a ZMF
Was it one of the finished (B-Stick) beauties?
This will be a fantastic holiday season for you
Enjoy the hell out of it!!

not b-stock, built from scratch. I must admit im a little apprehensive. I here things like ā€œwarmā€ and i think about the Nuemanns NDH20 ugh

Iā€™m looking forward to your impressions. I want a to get the Aeolus but when I hear ā€œwarmā€ all I can think of are the kph30i which I HATE. They are just muddy and unpleasant. I donā€™t think a $1000+ headphone will sound like a $30 one but if the midbass is too ā€œwarmā€ it may just sound muddy to me and Iā€™m not willing or able to gamble that much money. If only I could try a pair.
