more then the hd58x with the ZMF suede pads? YES! A TONNN!

Perf suede auteur pads are the best pads for aeolus imho. I have perf suede uni pads, stock pads, verite pads, and perf suede auteur

Hells yeah!!!

OK, only a few hours on my new Aeoluses (Aeolui?), and I’m extremely intrigued. They didn’t have that immediate “wow” that a super analytical & detailed, or super wide soundstage set of cans does. But these are lush
soft without losing dynamics, smooth without losing detail, and warm without neglecting treble. Definitely more sex in these headphones than any of my others.

More later but so far I really like what I’m hearing
not that anybody should be surprised to hear that someone likes their ZMF headphones!

top allrounder(from what I read) the Aeolus is :slightly_smiling_face: - congratulations!
I will listen to the aeolus and other zmfÂŽs in mid october - very nervous

by chance - do you use a tube amp?

Thanks Martin!

No tube amp, the opposite in fact. A THX789.

I want to get my DSLR camera out and take proper pictures. But that might never (probably won’t) happen, so here’s a bad cell phone pic of my current endgame.

Oh, and excuse the pegboard walls. My home office was the previous owner’s shop. Hey- I live near San Francisco so I’m lucky to have space for an office at all!!!

what a nice combo - also thought about the D70 as DAC for my 789.
Love the stylish hf-stand - I prefer these rounded, big and broad for the headband max supportive stands like this one
what kind of wood is the table? - we have acacia wood in the home office
I have not found a fixed position for my 789/SMSL-SU8/ifi xDSD stack yet
at the moment it is everywhere I sit down for a while

you lucky one - San Francisco is the number one location in your strange US of A, I would like to visit
we in munich know the problem with high rents, etc

Thanks Martin!

I actually don’t know the desk’s wood. I’m a tall guy so my home desk is actually a small kitchen table! I walked into a furniture store, saw that dark grain and said “I’ll take it.”

San Francisco is “a trip,” as they say. It’s a very old city (for California, that is) with old City problems. But it’s an amazing place.

That stand is an"Room" brand stand. If I recall it shipped from Germany. You should be able to find one quite easily!

Yes I recognized it immediately - it’s a company from Bielefeld in germany. They have them with and without hight adjustment in all sorts of colours and would grains.

A few days of listening and I have to say that they may be a little warm to my taste. The jury is still out, but I think that my ears perceive warmth as muddle and lack of seperation. Intellectually I know that they’re different things, but my ears just find my Focal Elex and Elegias clearer, detailed and more musical. This is not to say that these are not fantastic cans, but when comparing excellent headphones to other excellent headphones we have to focus on small things, right?

Maybe I’m sensitive to mids?? Is that a thing??

I own the Elex/Elegia & Aeolus as well. I look at it like this
The Focals are more neutral than the Aeolus and have more smooth extension into the upper frequencies which also make them sound what many describe as “metallic”. The Aeolus’ treble is more laid back and it’s timbre is more natural sounding than the focals. I am treble sensitive so the Aeolus’ more relaxed treble and warm timbre are welcomed in comparison especially listening to metal. I love the Aeolus especially listening to anything where I want to feel the weight of the low mids. Don’t get me wrong though, I love the Elex and Elegia as well. I’ve described the Elex as pretty much the perfect headphone in the past. I use my Elegia the most because I use it at work. It’s probably my least favorite of the three since I simply prefer the sound of open back headphones, but I EQ a few db around 100hz and the Elegia sounds fantastic.

I’m not getting rid of any of them!

Thanks for the input, Papa. Especially appreciated because we’ve discussed Focal headphones in the past and I know we are of like minds. Maybe the quick attack and treble extension on the Focals are “bright shiny objects” to my ears. Maybe I was unrealistic in my expectations, there’s something special in the Aeuolus, for sure. What pads are you using on them?

Or maybe I just need to listen to them more to appreciate them
rough life.

I switch between the Universe Suede and the stock pads. For me, I enjoy as much bass and impact as I can get, so my preference for the Aeolus are the stock pads. It’s like an LCD4 without the weight and a much better and natural frequency response with the stock pads. The suedes help to make the Aeolus more neutral. I like both pads for different reasons.

Agreed. But for me personally, that gets fatiguing after a while. I can listen to the Aeolus for long periods without any fatigue, and I can also push the volume and really “feel” the music with no sibilant issues. Although, there is music that I actually prefer to listen to with the Focals vs the Aeolus.

If I could only keep one headphone, it would be the Aeolus, but thankfully I can enjoy them all.

Maybe try removing the metal mesh under the pad. From what I’ve heard from others it reduces the bass a touch and bumps the treble slightly. Maybe that will fix your issue.
