Metal has his sayâŠ
Well, you asked for a follow up on them. I can confidently say, they are a massive upgrade over the 58X in every way. When you first get them, you will wonder, was it really worth it, but after a couple days of listening to them, and then switching back to the 58X, you find out that the 58X just sounds kinda dry and flat in comparison. The Aeolus beats it out in every category, by a pretty large margin in my ears. Also, go with the stock Perf Lambskin pads, they sound the best, especially if you are coming from the 58X.
I felt the same way when I got mine. they sounded good but I felt wanting more. Do to circumstances Ive burnt in two aeolus and I can confidently say they change a lot for the better. Its hard to explain but the notes just sound better. The bass gets tighter and seems more endless and inky. The most changes are at 20 40, 100 hours or so. enjoy the process or just use pink noise if your inpatient.
Whereas I donât know if I believe whole heatedly in âBurn-Inâ, I do think your ears get more accustomed to the specific sound signature they give over other headphones the more you use them, making it more dramatic when you switch to something else. Just my 2 cents, but iâm an idiot, so there is that too.
Both can be true, right??
Photo, I see that you chose the upgraded âOFCâ cable. Whatâs your impression vs the included stock cable?
You could also get a Periapt cable for about the same amount. Any thoughts there?
Honestly, the only upside for me to a different cable is looks, as well as slight comfort. You could easily go with Periapt cables for the Aeolus and it would be just as good. The only difference over the stock cables is that I donât like the thin double straight cable that it is, so I opted for just a straight wire, being the OFC Cable. I personally donât believe in the myth that a cable that is $60 is worse than a $200 one in the sound department, except for looks, and comfort factor. They both always sound the same to me.
Amen.
My Elex came with one of those âside by sideâ cables and I donât like it at all- stiff hard hard to manage. I ended up ordering a Periapt cable. Hence my adding them to the question.
Thanks for the perspective! The OFC cable it is!
I have Periapt cables for my Aeolus and Elex/Elegia. I recommend them. They are inexpensive, heavy duty and very comfortable. Fantastic cables!
Oh, and thanks to everyone for the advice. I pulled the trigger yesterday and ordered a Sapele Aeolus with the aforementioned OFC cable.
Hereâs me, at the end of the line:
Now the long wait begins. Good luck
Nice! I ordered one the same day, but I havenât made the list yet.
Ah!!! We can struggle through the wait together.
I wouldnât stress on not making the list yet. Iâve been keeping and eye on it, and it doesnât change much on a day to day basis. Probably the person keeping the list also wears two or three other hats.
Did you order a Sapele Aeolus?
Yep! Went with the sapele with suede pads.
They donât update their Google Spreadsheets much after they put you on the list. They updated it once during my whole 7 week wait, and it was because I asked them 4 weeks in why mine still says âPendingâ. So, they work on your headphones without updating them much. Now you know.
If they spend most of their time making headphones, then Iâm happy. The last thing I want is the guy in charge of âsanding and finishingâ my headphones to be fretting about a spreadsheet while he does mine.
@Sherm137, it looks like you made the spreadsheet! Looks like they do this is batches (which makes sense) so we should both hit each step around the same time.
This is like a very slow moving reality TV show weâre watching.
I saw that. But then I switched over to the Auteur :). I couldnât resist the detail monster!
No âmid range romanceâ or âethereal decayâ for you?
I admit I had the same thought, but decided to stick with the aeolus.
