Iām looking to buy an aeolus. Iām coming from a hd800S. Iām looking for something with better mids, a little more low end thump, and an overall funner headphone. I just hope it doesnt sound too confined and intense coming from the spacious and airy hd800S

you need to understand that the soundstage of the 800 is artificial. the soundstage projects itself much more naturally on an Aeolus. the suede pads for the Aeolusās convey a much more realistic projection of sound then what the hd800 ever did. aeolus can get close and intimate unlike the hd800 but aeolus is still fairly wide with the suede pads

This is super important! When I first got into this hobby, I thought a wide soundstage was incredible and necessary. But as Iāve listened to more and more headphones, I realize that a super wide stage is actually pretty fake sounding. At most, the soundstage should go no further than your shoulders, and even then, thatās getting pretty far out there. You need enough stage to add depth to musical performances, especially classical/orchestra pieces. It will help add separation to the instruments. However, an artificially large soundstage makes the musical performance sound bigger than it actually is.

I dont like wide soundstage I like soundstage depth more. I like things to be portrayed out in front of me and layered like a live performance. Hearing symbols and vocals in my left or right ear doesnt seem natural at all. When the instruments are suposed to be in front of you. Why do I hear them in my left and right channels then? This is what I want from the aeolus. And vocals to be super realistic
If I can get this. I will buy one instantly

Ethereal decay
Mid-Bass Punch
Just put the suede pads on. The stock pads are comfortable but these are literally like pillows touching your face.

Does the aeolus have a wider and deeper stage than hd600/650, focal utopia?
youāre implying that the hd600 has soundstage and idk about that. while i havent tried utopiaās the aeolusās sure has soundstage with the suede pads. i think what you are trying to ask is if they are wide, and with the suede pads, yes, yes they are, its quite descent, the soundstage is good. i cant describe how they portray the soundstage because i dont have much of a reviewer ear. i listen to music more then i listen to my gear so im untrained as well
