I would say yes you could have both, but it really depends on what you are after. The VC are a higher tier of headphone overall, but the aeolus is really just going for smoothness and a relaxed sound imo, kinda like sit back and not care about the technicalities thing. Imo too smooth for my tastes, but I think if you want something chill and arenāt worried about detail or other things like that you could own both imo
Many thanks to both, this clarifies my doubts, I will only take the VĆ©ritĆ© Closed then, Iām in for a more engaging and energetic approach than a relaxed one.
I love my Aeolus!
I canā afford/justify a VC.
I am still happy.
ZMF is making great HPās.
Enjoy whatever ZMF HP you got.
Looks like the Verite Limited Leopardwood option is off the site. I placed my order for those about two weeks ago but Iām still excited to see what comes next.
Side note, when i placed my order the product page noted that the Seahorse case was the only case available. I placed my order with that case selected but I see a bunch of order after mine have the mahogany wood case as their order selection.
Did I mess up? Should I bug them to try and change to the wood case? The Seahorse case seems fine but i could just buy that off Amazon but the wood case seems unique to ZMF.
What should I do?
I mean you can contact zach and ask for a change to the wood case. I just left mine as seahorse since itās more practical
Thatās your choice to make, but the Seahorse case seems infinitely more useful. I use mine everyday, whereas if I got the wooden case, it would sit on my cabinet, empty.
Looks like the orders are moving pretty well and my anxiety is growing with every week. I also ordered exactly two weeks ago. @Grimspoon
Spec: LTD VC Drk - Hybrid Auteur/UNIverse + Eikon Suede + Suede strap/Leather HB + Seahorse
My HTuba AMP arrived todayā¦ just a bit shy of the VC lol.
Looking into new tubes if anyone has a rec? āPref would like to roll themā " Budget = good sound quality"
Current chain PC > iFi Micro iDSD Black Label > Tuba > HP āsoon to be VC and Grado GH 4ā
Streaming from AMHD/Tidal
Portable iFi BL if i need the juice / BTR5 with my Linsoul URBANFUN YBF-ISS014 in 2.5mm
I currently have zero proper headphones to test the tuba out but I did put my order in for the last pair of Grado GH 4ās on Amazon ālooked into the RS2eā and they should be here Monday. They are more or less something i have not heard yet.
I might have to make another thread but i am hunting for a complimentary set of cans for the VC. The Grado might fill a role but i am eyeing the Arya as an all around Planar performer.
Headphones i have tried and returned.
HD 660s/600/6XX/650 - In order from best to worst to my ears and music.
Audio quest NH Carbons - This was my blunder i was only about 100 hours into the burn in
Audio Technica ATH-AD1000X - Bad fit for longer listening. Ears on drivers.
Hifiman Sundara - Not enough slam and the highs were a little much when i wanted to crank it up, Ears on drivers.
DT 800 600ohm - A friend owns these now
Audeze LCD-2C - Listen to Leviathan or Ra by Azedia āyouāll thank me bass headsā too Heavy
Audeze LCD-2.2 - Same as the 2C
Audeze LCD-1 - Cheap AF build / No replacement pads / 1/3 maybe 2/3 the big boys sound
Fostex Dekoni Blue T50rp MKIII - Loved them besides the fact both pairs i had the left cup rattled.
At first when i was complaining on being overly sibilant sensitive. It took a hearing test to show i can hear in the 20kās bit my left ear is a big less since the tinnitus.
Thank you for any Responses.
Good things are happeningā¦
This. Zach is extremely accommodating. Iām actually getting both cases this timeāI ordered the wood case, for when my VC is at rest, but added a Seahorse that I can use to transport either it or the Eikon between home and the office (or wherever else).
Complementary in what way? What are you hoping to emphasize that you donāt expect go to VC for? Or are you asking for advice?
Until my VC arrives, the Eikon is like a personal co-flagship for euphonic / fun listening with an emphasis on vocal tracks. Meanwhile, Stellia is my favorite all-rounder with a greater emphasis on sheer detail retrieval.
When the VC shows up, I expect it will spend more time on the Pendant for tubey goodness while Iāll probably stick to SS for Stellia. But Iāll see what Iāve got when it gets hereā¦
Same situation but with a Tuba in my case. I was contemplating the pendent. I have not heard the VO or VC so this was a shot in the dark. āBesides the info i have found in videos and forumsā I think i will enjoy the Gradoās off the tube as well. To be honest i was also looking into the Eikon as my second setā¦ but there was something about that planar deep bass and slam rumble i want. I do not know if the VC will be enough. As of right now i will try to enjoy the GH4ās when they get here. Maybe i am over thinking and this pairing will do me great till i find a new sound i am looking for.
Complimentary as in something the VC will not offer. Since it is already going to be a closed back i felt the Grado is a good fit but they might be too alike/bright. I was a huge fan of the LCD2.2/C but man after 10 hours it broke my neck. This is why i was looking into the Arya.
I am truly interested how this will change with the VC in your hands.
Now the wait becomes more intenseā¦
@Darthpool I donāt understand how you do this fuckery with the fantastic pictures, nope I donāt understand photography at all. I do know that I want you to come to my house though and figure out how to take some fantastic pictures of my stuff so I can have these beautiful images in my wallet when I am forced out of doors and away from my beloved audio equipmentā¦ Great photos as always!
Thanks for that! Iām still learning the trade! Iām still on single photo editingā¦hopefully soon Iāll feel comfortable diving into photoshop =) but as of right now all my photos are just playing with lighting, camera settings and composition =) and of course Lightroom for post processing (oh and my secret weapon DxO photolabs for initial raw edits before Lightroom edits)
I probably didnāt need to type all thisā¦
Any idea how close you are to getting your set? I donāt know what the typical wait time for ZMF is.
I think it should be a short wait now. Iām near the top of the list and have been for a week or so.
ZMF did a couple live streams recently, and I learned that COVID had an impact on the factory, but thatās over and they mentioned being nearly caught up on backorders. They also mentioned moving into a new space soon, which I imagine might be another small hiccup.
The wait is part of the uncomfortable joy of owning a ZMF headphone. Itāll be ready when itās ready. The biding of time is frustrating, but the reward at the end is more special than other headphones, because each one is uniqueāwhat you get at the end of the long journey is uniquely yours.
Regardless, short answer is āsome weeks.ā
Iām still at the same position on the list, but my status has changed to QC! Woot! And itās shaded blue, whatever that means. Viva Blue QC!
And now back to randomly clicking on the refresh button.
I just dropped off the spreadsheet! OMG-OMG-OMG, lol.
No tracking yet, but I expect thatās imminent.
Just curous is verite closed supposed to sound very closed in?
Its like Iām hearing the reverb off the shell and there is no vurtual expention of the soundscape.
Hey thanks for trying them out! Happy to help bring some clarity to the VC. A few questions that would help me understand how to guide you are: what pads, what wood and what Amp were you using? It is definitely an extremely isolating and closed headphone, but certain combinations of earpads, wood and amping will change the timbre and decay, therefore changing the sense of space. All of these elements will change things quite a bit, and also what your reference is. Always happy to help! Send me an email at [email protected] and I can help move them towards your preferences.
