đŸ”· ZMF Verite Closed

2 Super Trooper references in 1 day!

I would like to ask any Verite Closed owners what pads beside the Eikon Suede they have tried or prefer and why? I am days away from putting in my order and i would like to get it all in one swoop.

They will be currently ran off an iFi Micro Black Label with a tube amp to be announced. Any tube amp recommendations are also appreciated.

I personally like the universe pads

What budget you thinking

I use Auteur Hybrid on my Verite C (I like the suede on my face, and prefer the sound of the leather), the Universe pads might be slightly better tonally, but they don’t sound as open as the Auteur pads. I also tried BE pads, but they have a thicker foam over the driver and that really messed with the tonality in a way I did not like.

I would say at least 600-1000$ since i already spent that on the iFi BL. The Tuba has been the most recommended. I would like to get something that i can roll tubes on as well.

This is something i think i have found to like as well. I will try out both leather and suede of each and move from there, Also grab the Eikon suede since i see almost everyone that has ordered these has them. Is there much of a tonality difference with the hybrid?

Did you end up going with the light or dark?

I almost feel that i should have gone with an RME ADI-2 for my desk.

But
the iFi BL is an amazing portable unit for my needs.

I mean the tuba is pretty sweet, I do think it would be real nice

Also I agree with @Polygonhell on the be pads, not a fan

No and I wouldn’t expect any, the suede isn’t in the area the sound is bouncing around.

I thought about taking the thicker foam off the back the be2 hybrid and see how they sound. That foam is the issue. Well the biggest issue.

My VC is still in the works, but I exchanged a few emails with Zach while putting my order together. He told me:

“On V closed the [Auteur, Universe] hybrid pads are great - and the Verite pads are very neutral if you wanted a neutral pad.”

I’ll be getting both of the suggested hybrid pads + verite + Eikon suede. I can’t believe it’s only been 3 weeks since I ordered. Feels like I’ve been waiting for 3 months already, lol.

[EDIT] - P.S. What are “BE pads”?

The BE2 pads are an option on the Verite pad page, I think they are intended for the Verite Open.
They have a thicker piece of foam backing the pad rather than the normal thin mesh material.
That foam changes the tonal qualities of the Verite, on the closed it wasn’t a change I liked, I haven’t tried them on the Open.

Lol. Man, ZMF and their pads! The current Verite ordering page doesn’t mention BE pads–just these:

They’re also nowhere to be seen on the pads page in the shop. But I finally located them here, on the ZMF Pad Secret Decoder Ring page:
https://www.zmfheadphones.com/zmfpads

Dunno if that implies they’re discontinued, off-menu only, or simply overlooked on the current site. Regardless, thanks for helping to clue me in. :+1:

They’re listed as a special type of verite pad:

You can choose them in the drop down menu.
That’s how I ordered the BE2 perforated lambskin pads with my verite open order.

That is not what I thought he would look like. I had a more professorial, older guy in mind. He looks too
cool.

ZMF in Stereophile:

The article covers a fair bit of ground, including various headphone models, some different pads and the Pendant amp. This thread seemed as good a place as any to share. I’m pretty sure Google suggested this to me in my news feed, but I just finally got around to reading the whole thing.

Guys, I know it’s not a simple question since not everyone has the opportunity to try them both or have them both but I’m gonna ask anyway, is it worth taking Aeolus if you already intend to take a pair of VĂ©ritĂ© Closed? Are they different enough to be worth owning both or should I just take the VĂ©ritĂ© Closed? Unfortunately I don’t have the chance to try them but following my personal and musical tastes they would be the ideal candidates among all the models.

You’ll get different answers to this.
They are different headphones, I personally find the Aeolus to be “dissapointing”, but only in direct comparison to the biodynamic ZMF’s, I own an Aeolus, and a Verite C, I rarely choose to listen to the Aeolus.
