šŸ”¶ 7HZ Timeless Planar

Hello and welcome to hfgf

As @Resolution stated, avoid all BA sets for prog metal. He is the in house prog master, so his recs will be on point.

You’ll need a DD for that specific genre to shine.

Today I’m gonna try listening to metal on my IEMs with a DD compared to all BA. Usually I prefer fast BA bass.

Yeah, BA speed is nice. What is hard to get is that same speed with slam impact. That’s why FH3, 3DT, FH7, Mest Mk2 come to mind for prog metal.

They are fast and impactful.

I love BA sets tho, but I dont do prog much. Im a mids guy

Ps: I never heard fh7 or 3dt since they dont sinergize with my library, but I trust Res on this two.

FH7 was one of my sets I got shot of lol

I was really interested in this set and I’m not a slam junkie, but the lack of imaging is keeping me away. I love good imaging as Tool is one of my favorite bands and their music is extremely well recorded, especially the construction of the drum kit. With good imaging, it’s almost like sitting right behind the drummer as he plays.

Well there are different reports. Some praise the technicalities, some trash them.

BGGAR says they excel at imaging and stage etc.

Resolution says they suck at it.

This too is my only concern but I’m of the camp that has to try things for themselves to understand exactly how things sound.

Reviewers will give their opinion based on relative and comparative assessments of things from their current and sometimes past experiences. They may have TOTL gear and vast experience and so expectations are higher or they may have some mid tier equipment, it’s all relative. Let’s not also forget everyone hears things differently so reviews form only about 25% of my final thoughts on something.

I’m really hoping the Timeless imaging is good though, it could be a deal breaker for me also. :crossed_fingers:

I agree. I was about to say the same thing

To me it sounds like seperation and imaging comes with high resolution. Anyway for good imaging an open back headphone would be a better choice.

I think everyone forgot these impressions of the Timeless…

Yeah they sound like they’ll be fantastic regardless of price. I like how you’ve presented your thoughts based on actual performance rather than based on value per price point - ā€œsounds good for the moneyā€ means nothing to anyone so I’m happy when reviewers like yourself avoid these comments.

I guess I was saying take reviews as a prompt whether to dip your feet it or not but only the end user can tell what they find good relative to what they’ve heard as well.

I’m glad you’re enjoying them and hope people don’t get put off trying something just because of one negative in a plethora of positives! I’m getting itchy ears waiting for mine to arrive.

Ha ha, I’m not really a reviewer. I’m just a hobbyist like all the rest of you that loves listening to music. I just so happen to be a collector with a huge collection of IEMs and experience with them.

…and I like to talk a lot.

Exactly. I personally do exactly that. I’ve been listening to BGGAR’s recommendations for quite sometime and when he suggests to check something out, I listen. @Rikudou_Goku is another reviewer I trust with my wallet. Neither of these guys have steered me wrong and I’ve usually always been happy with their recommendations. They know their stuff and I’ve learned a great deal from them both.

You were spot on when mentioning the context of my experience with TOTL gear. I hope people value my opinions because I have experience with arguably some of the best equipment available and can let people understand how a $200 IEM stacks up against much more expensive items and be completely transparent about it. But as you said, you have to keep that context in mind when I am giving impressions having lots of experience with IEMs like the MEST MKII considered one of if not the best the hobby has to offer. Well said!

Ha ha, not so sure about that. Sometimes I start writing and then hit Reply, look up and say to myself. OMG… Did I just write all of that?

That’s just a sign of enthusiasm! :+1: Keep at it.

Let me see what I can dig up… Just be aware, I just woke up and there’s no coffee in my system.

To be fair they also said it was weird.

Are there any particular songs you’re looking for? I’m most framiliar with the 10,000 Days album, Sober, Prison Sex, Stinkfist, Fourty Six & 2, and Schism

For imaging the song ā€œFear Inoculumā€ really stands out and is my test track for imaging when the drums come in.

Gotcha. Not one I’m super framiliar with, but I just grabbed it. I’ll probably give it a few listens to get a good idea, and give me time to grab some coffee.

I’m counting on it! That’s exactly how I feel about the P1 and why it’s doesn’t get much use…

It’s kinda magical, but I can’t quite get used to the (lack of) low end on it…

I was like ā€œfuck yes!ā€ when I read @Resolution’s impressions on the Timeless!
