Interesting, alright, thanks for that tip, man!
The second order took about 5 months to fulfil all be it by Sony UK got a lot of āyou can cancel your order ā hung in there and they were finally delivered
Dude, Jesus Christ, 5 months?! thatās actually insane. Must of been a nice almost surprise once it got fulfilled and delivered though.
So just got the stuff I ordered at the start of the spring sale
As you can see it seems pretty sub par, the metal case for my new backup pair of timeless has a super messed up hinge (creaks and feels wrong opening it) but these came with cases for the tips instead of the bags like my first pair so trade offs I guess
Also got a tin hifi case that was somehow glued to the inside of the box so I had to rip off the boxā¦
Hope other people are getting the quality controlled stuff lol
Edit picture isnāt showing up well on here so if you canāt tell there is super botched machining all over the hinge and they filled it in with glueā¦
Hiā¦what do you think about these on the Timeless? First copper plated silver cable I heard of. The usual are the silver plated coppers, so this is the opposite.
On my setup the Timeless sounds a bit shrill on the highs especially female vocals, so I was thinking of getting a pure Copper cable to alleviate those highs a bit (donāt have the time to play with EQ haha). Iām under the impression that the silver in the stock cable could be the culprit hence the pure copper choice. But Iām afraid i might lose a bit of the nice details and separation the Timeless provides using a pure copper cable. So the Tri Wolfram looks promising for the sound signature Iām looking for i.e. keep the details and smooth out the highs.
And yes Iām aware the āsnake-oilā argument but Iām not saying that cables can definitely improve the sound but rather to get the sound signature Iām looking for for my personal music library, so please be gentle
that case is so worthless, i just wish manufacturers would cut down on such āextrasā
Thatās a very very nice cable. I replaced my Timeless cable with the Tripowin Jelly cable and even that caused a difference in the sound enough for me to enjoy the Timeless a bit more. I honestly
Donāt know what to think with cables and what difference they actually make to the sound and it may just be placebo but every time Iāve replaced the cable on a pair of IEMs with a nicer aftermarket cable, I can audibly hear a difference. I just replaced the cable on my Mon MKII and I can absolutely hear a difference.
But I do think itās worth it, man! Itās a great looking cable.
To piggy back off of my first reply ā¦ I did not realize the cable was $200 ā¦ for me personally that is a bit steep. My most expensive cable was $70 and I think thatād be right around where Iād stop. Unless someone can confirm some crazy improvement on sound.
Promotional price is $100 now but I can still find some selling it for $200 at AliExpress and some for $100 but I definitely can get it at $100 from my local shop (still shipping from China) but they are willing to honor the price so before everyone raised their price to the retail $200 Iād better get it fast
Iām still on the fence tho. Wanted to get this at first: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000352746675.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.1b534d105jDzxO&algo_pvid=46aad9f6-87a7-49e9-8b92-08667788b19b&algo_exp_id=46aad9f6-87a7-49e9-8b92-08667788b19b-0&pdp_ext_f={āsku_idā%3A"10000001465343106"}&pdp_pi=-1%3B90.0%3B-1%3B-1%40salePrice%3BUSD%3Bsearch-mainSearch
I see! Well, for $100 Iād probably consider it for sure. Speaking from experience though, fabric coated cables are not my favorite. They look amazing but the weight and the subtle microphonic nature of the material can be annoying especially when youāre mobile like I am. I can only suspect that if youāre at a desk, this wonāt be an issue.
Regardless, I think theyāre both great options, man! The KBear cables look more like something I could dig, I love me a black cable
In general I am a fan of the Tripowin cables, here are the cables from them I own.
- Zonie - 32AWG 16 Core Silver Plated - $18
- Jelly - 32AWG 16 Core 21 Wire - $36
- Altea - 26 AWG Upgraded 6N OCC Litz 4 Cores - $39
Overall I find that Tripowin makes good quality cables for reasonable prices. I need to get a Noire, which seems like a 24 gauge Altea with modular termination for the same price.
I donāt buy that they change the sound in any way that shows on a graph, or people would be showing their graphs like vent mods, or even ear tips, but I do think there are impacts that are more subtle, and objectively immeasurable. It doesnāt mean that we canāt enjoy those un-graphable or subjective bits that we like. FTR, I like the sound on the Altea better than the Zonie, and I couldnāt tell you why. At the same time I prefer the feel of the super flexible cables on the Zonie and Jelly.
Well said. I think that there are unmeasurable changes to the sound, at least to my ears. I remember being pretty shocked at the difference in sound once I went from stock to jelly on the Timeless. Again. Placebo? I genuinely donāt think so.
The Noire Cable looks amazing, I somehow missed it a few weeks back looking at a replacement cable with swappable terminations ā¦ hmm.
worthless? sure its not pocketable but if you keep IEMās in a bag when you go places the case is keeping them safe
in terms of keeping IEMs safe from damage the 7HZ cases are the best Iāve seen followed only by the baby pelican case looking ones lol
I got the Noire cable with my olina, and must say I donāt like it: it is thick and heavy. And the lack of ear hooks doesnāt help.
Interesting. Yeah I learned quickly that cables that are thick and heavy do feel nice and premium, with Fantastic build quality, but theyāre just uncomfortable after a while. Especially when the 2 pin or MMCX assembly is too long. Thatās how I felt with the stock Mon MKII cable. Feels absolutely amazing, super well built and it is beautifulā¦ but I switched it out after 2 weeks.
It lacks padding on the inside to offer proper protection. If you carefully put it on the ground and stomp on it, sure it is amazing, but if you put it in a backpack that you throw around it would be safer without that case
with the cable in there the IEMās donāt move enough to be damaged from smacking the inside? not sure how thatās safer than getting crushed inside a backpack lol
Cases are subjective I would say. I really like the case that comes with the Timeless. I accept that it isnāt the greatest quality and is no where near pocketable. But I feel that itās something different, feels and looks great. It served me well when I carried them around.
Usually cables form a ring, which would protect the IEM in 2 axes, leaving a third axis for the IEM to go full impact against a hard metal shell. What do you mean by ācrushedā? If you put it between heavy books in your backpack sure itās terrible, but usually backpacks got compartments for stuff and I never suggested you put your IEMs in between heavy books. So imagine the IEM strategically placed in a proper compartment. If you throw the backpack, the IEM will be always on the backside of the compartmant (considering the direction of the throw). So when the backpack will impact, the fabric will impact first and move away from the impact point as itās impulse is reversed while the IEM is still moving forward. So the IEM will not impact directly with the wall, but instead it will collide with the fabric coming towards that IEM. This would be terrible if the fabric was a metal wall like it is the case with the 7hz case, but luckily the fabric is usually soft and flexible. So instead it will absorb the kinetic energy the IEM carries. Another IEM saved thanks to soft fabric instead of unpadded metal cases. Good day to be alive
only time Iāve had IEMās break when travelling was when I stuffed them in a bag in their own compartment with a keyboard and mouse in another compartment bag fell off the seat and crushed them lol since then Iāve used cases timeless or otherwise and never had any damage to them even from getting thrown around so as always ymmv
