AFUL Explorer 1DD+2BA Hybrid In-Ear Monitors

The Delci AE might be a nice IEM to take a strong look at, brother. I haven’t heard them my self but I’ve heard good things about the tuning, especially the bass.

Best of luck finding the right set for your ears, man. I know it can be tough sometimes especially when you can’t demo things.

Oh nice thankyou I’ll look at that as well and ya man I’m in Iowa it’s terrible

For sure. Let me know how you make out.

The upper mids and treble look very smooth compared to even the Explorer, minus the 8k resonance peak. Of course, graphs don’t mean much, but you already know that.

I feel your pain, I’m in Boston… A major city, and there’s still no way to demo IEMs here. I’m very fortunate to have a group of friends who share their IEMs on tours but even then it’s impossible to demo everything. The good thing is the Delci AE is on Amazon with returns so, worst case scenario, they don’t work for you and you return them.

Assuming your Explorer is as it should sound like and still pierced your ears, the S08 should be worse for you.

Perhaps you want something darker. Final Audio E5000 is the darkest iem I heard for example.

right that was my thinking graph wise as well and its almost perfect for me, even S12 on the Muse M4 is pretty much perfect with no sibilance it was odd

Sibilance with the Explorer? That blows my mind.

Either you received a defective unit or have an incredible sensitivity to sibilance. Not a criticism. I’m bummed for you.

Thought so as well but this throws me off.

Yep. The treble in all those shrill planars worked for him, but the Explorer didn’t. Not questioning at all, but still baffling.

It happens. A lot of people glossed the CCA Trio upon release. It didn’t work for me, even with various tuning switch combinations. The Senny 560s received a heap of praise for its clarity and neutrality for the price upon release, yet its treble peak nailed me in just the wrong spot, and I had to sell it.

Yeah, which is why it being defective seems the most likely to me. If it isnt…then yeah no clue…
I guess @11_Clouds could try to use PEQ to see what is bothering them in the explorer.

Just so everyone knows, I’m sending my Explorers to @11_Clouds so we can narrow down if it’s a bad unit or bad fit for his HRTF/anatomy.

Curious to hear the results of this experiment. Explorer is a very smooth, laid back sounding set to me. I can be sensitive to lower treble in IEMs sometimes but the Explorer has never bothered me, and I think I listen at relatively high volumes. I enjoy it with some pretty aggresive rock and electronic music. I do have them paired with the Mojo which is a somewhat relaxed source, so that may also be a contributing factor.

I’m having a hard time making Spinfit W1 last on the Explorer. After sometime they just slip out and just don’t stay anymore, quite annoying. Anyone having similar issue?

Never tried the W1 but I have also never had a problem with the Explorer ‘losing’ its tips. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend using a facial tissue or similar Kleenex-adjacent material to wipe off the stems of the Explorer and also twist up the tissue to create a 'thong" where you can pull it back and forth inside the tips to clean off any residual oils from skin and the like. Any time I have had tips popping off in the past, that usually did the trick to resolve it, especially when the stems lack a lip such as the Explorer.

Perhaps you can use the o-ring trick.

(Blon BL-03)

put an o-ring that helps secures the tip for you, need to find a size that works for the explorer though.

I found that a tip with a thicker and less flexible stem stays on more securely. The W1s, the Final Type E and the like usually fall off for me. But tips like the KBear 07s, the Azla Crystals and Vivids etc. stay on more secure with the thicker stem.

Although, I had a Azla Crystal tip fall off into my ear the other day whilst out and about and I had to live with it in my ear for like an hour before I could fish it out… that was not fun lol

That actually did the trick, had to clean inside the bore of the tip. Seems obvious but you know… haha.
