How come nobody has mentioned Berserk? Is it too dark?

Probably because none of the berserk adaptions are particularly good. They all kinda fell flat and didn’t do the source justice. The newest TV adaption is fucking terrible, we’re likely to never get a proper and quality adaption at this point.

The Manga though… Yes just do it, one of the best dark fantasy Mangas you will ever read.

Whaaat?!? I’ll agree with you on the most recent adaptation of Black Swordsman + Conviction Arcs. Garbage. And not even complete.

But the Golden Age Arc from the late 90s? Fuckin great. Totally did justice to the Manga.

One of the best things the anime adaptation did was starting with just Golden Age, whereas with the manga you start with Black Swordsman then go to Golden Age. Focusing on just Golden Age really magnifies the intensity and fuckery of The Eclipse.

My only gripe would be that at the end (of the anime) nothing is really resolved, but then again, we’re 360+ chapters in (the manga) and still, nothing feels resolved.

The only Berserk adaptation worthwhile is the one from the 90s… the rest are a slap in the face. The 90s one not only is a great anime, in my top 5 animes that’s for sure… (Ubik profile pic…) but imo has one of the best soundtracks… so much emotion in it, even more once you know what happens…
And also NG Envagelion is on that top 5 for me.

NGE is quite something. I can’t quite rank it as one of my top 5 favorites, but it is everything people say it is.

As a deconstruction of the mecha genre alone, it’s great. From a psychological perspective… whew.

I should give it and the movies a watch again. I watched it discontinously, so I couldn’t wrap my head around the later episodes. :stuck_out_tongue:

Trying to think what would be my tops, idk. Nichijou, Ghost in the Shell, a couple Ghibili films (okay too easy) that’s all I can remember from probably countless other great stuff I watched. Well, if I can’t remember 2+ years back, maybe they aren’t that amazing afterall.

Probably the creepiest profile pic I’ve seen so far.

I’ll have to make a point of watching that before year end.

I wish I have the curiosity that I had back then when it comes to watching an anime series that is new, but lately I have not beem able to keep up on the new ones. I think the last anime that I have watched and legitimately gave me an enjoyment of watching it, even though it was short, was DARWIN’S GAME, and man the main guy from that anime is no dumbass therefore he’s a smart badass, and some of you people should give it a watch.

An another anime that I have gave a watch since I was bored at that time, was Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! I got to admit, it is a pretty funny anime and some of the scenarios there when it comes to the university life, I can relate to, especially Shinichi Sakurai, who was like the main dude of the anime being a loner and that in college for I am as well like that back then lol except no cute shortstack female kouhai to accompany you. (Reality is often disappointing.)

Also yeah, given by my profile pic, I am still waiting for the Camelot movie from FGO, and I am only there for one single character that I want to see get animated, and that would be Artoria aka her Lancer version.

2003 Kino’s Journey is amazing. Can’t recommend it enough

Everything “Psycho-pass” is available with Amazon video (or whatever they call it). Interesting, will watch soon.

Lol, I just paid 6$ to have something shipped to me faster and cheaper (subscribing to Amazon Prime), and after the fact I saw it included this + amazon music. Might as well use it, huh!

Dr. Stone is pretty damn good. If you love shonen and are into science, this is right up your alley.

new season new reccs I’ve only watched the first 2 minutes of this but id you feel a high school comedy romcom “Horimiya” is pretty great Basinng this opinion on how the manga is as I can already see the decent quality of the anime in the first 2 minutes and how hard it is to fuck up an adaptation of the anime.

Horimiya is great, i’ve been following the manga for a long time and i’m so happy we finally have a anime adaption, it’s long overdue. So far I’m really happy with the adaption and can’t wait to watch more of my favorite characters interact and the story develop.

Oh that one, criminally underrated and deserves more attention to people who are into that kind of genre. Thanks to my best friend suggesting it to me back then who has vast knowledge when it comes to light novels, anime and manga, I enjoyed it and like it because of him.

Also please, Berserk 2021 anime should not be a thing anymore, I have seen the horrors of 2016 enough for my grasses to not work anymore. Berserk 1997 I think will be the most superior form and close to Berserk’s style and soul.

Honestly all they really have to do is give the lisence and rights to make the anime to a studio that has the ability to co Vey proper emotion and great animation with minimal 3d. Like I wish I could say madhouse would be a perfect studio for this but they have cut some corners on some of their titles lately like overlord. If they were able to do it in the 90’s I don’t see why we couldn’t do it well with current tech. And right now I. Craving some good adult well animated action that actually has good story. Cause we really lacked that last year.

That’s why i rarely watch animes now… The lack of seriousness like in the 80s and 90s…

IMO japanese animation is not necessarily better or worse than it was in the past. “Sturgeon’s law” applied then and applies now. We just tend to remember things that actually stand out beyond mediocre. I can’t argue that modern shows may not appeal to you, but I don’t think the medium has ever changed for better or worse.

Anime has always been about trying to profit off a costly medium, or at least from other products of the franchise like the original print works, merch, etc. Thus, most anime are single cour and are adaptions of popular works. It’s elaborate advertising.

I like to keep up with the new shows just cause there are one or 2 shows that do really stand out from the crowd like everey other season. I’m part of the crowd where peak good anime was 2005 -2010 era as that’s where most of what I like to call “Essential anime” aired stuff like death note, haruhi sizumiya, code geass,FMA brotherhood aired. But that’s a very I grew up watching avatar the last Airbender and 4 kids point of view. But the anime airing now aside from the isekai I find to be heavily inspired by anime of that era. And you get a few that just pop although I am not overly into super serious anime. But I watch a decent amount of nice serious anime. I do find they are slightly more finicky or have to find a different angle as they used to but it’s what you gotta do to stand out and have any sense of personality in the competitive realm of anime.

I think what really is evolving these days is protagonists especially male protagonists are starting to become less self inserts and specially in romance anime. I. Not saying the old self inserts protagonists don’t exist but I’m seeing more and more likable smarter protagonists now than I used to that the harem trend of the early to mid 2010’s destroyed. And those protagonists have moved on to isekais. Now my rom comes and even harem anime are starting to either add personality or even deconstruct the generic male protagonists.
