Start working out now!
I can wear my LCD 2 maybe two hours, but if I did sleep wrong i can feel the weight after 1 hour
Itās a great HP but nothing I could wear all day
I think it depends on the person and maybe posture. Iāve never had an issue, but Iām active, and when Iāve done something stupid and strained my neck, I grab my Elegiaās, lol.
I can wear mine all day and have been known to fall asleep with them on. Yes they are heavy but the headband keeps it dispersed really well.
To me they are super comfortable, heavy as hell but still comfortable because of the fit and the way the weight is distributed.
I wear mine for 8 hours straight with no issues, but ymmv of course, i agree that it depends on your posture as well as how strong your neck is.
Personally i would consider exercises to strengthen my neck for real if it was hurting from using the LCD-X, i like exercising anyways and i think the sound is worth it, but that is just me
EDIT: btw i could not wear the Focal Clear which is much lighter for more than 1 hour without lots of pain in my jaw under my ears because of the clamping force, and people love the Clearās comfort. So this is a very subjective topic
At first you could feel the weight in your neck after a few hours, but now I can easily wear them for 5-6 hours. Overall I find them comfortable. They clamp reasonably well and the headband doesnāt create a hotspot on top.
Iām starting to sound like Z. Every time I put these headphones on you can feel the weight, like youāre putting on a box of good sound around your head. I absolutely love the tonality of the 2021 LCD-X. It is heavy yes, but the soundā¦
I said the sameā¦ until I got the Diana Phi. I sold of my LCD-X and I still miss it a bit.
Same deal for me with the Clearās, they loosen up after a while, but I prefer both my Audezeās in the comfort department, even my 2PFās with the OG headband.
Diana Phi, or Abyss 1266 TC was my āend-gameā, but itās far too out of reach for me at the moment. Iād love to hear them.
Take your time. Enjoy the journey. Right now Iām listening to my LCD-24 after listening to the LCD-R. The LCD-24 reminds me of what I enjoyed the LCD-X so much.
Folks, does the LCD-X (2021) benefit from having a balanced amp/cable?
Was thinking of pairing it with a Topping L30+E30 stack, but I keep wandering if it would be better to get a balanced cable and pair it with another amp/dac combo.
Not exactly what youāre looking for, but I would consider this video before making the purchase. According to Josh, LCD-X plus Topping can get overly clinical, but if thatās what you want maybe itās ok.
As for the balance per se, I donāt own LCD-X but my understanding is you donāt need it, as itās a very efficient headphone. Quality/pairing would be more important here depending on what you want.
My thought is with tubes the X oughta be nice on the earsā¦even the older model was pegged as more analyticā¦I can imagine with a detail emphasized amp these might be too muchā¦Iām gonna try these on Bifrost to Feliks Echo II /Lyr 3. And maybe Auris Euterpe
The benefit of balanced versus single ended is amp dependent. The Bifrost 2 ā RNHP ā LCD-X is still one of my favorite signal chains.
Sorry, why not go for something a little bit more powerful when itās planar? RNHP output is like 350mW aināt it?
Thatās a rather sensitive planar. You canāt lump everything in together so simply. And as far as power, really depends but the only headphone I own right now that canāt be driven by the Diana Phi is the RNHP. And the RNHP is one of the best amps I own (despite having 2 amps 3x or more the price).
Alright, gotcha. I was under the impression that planar gobbles power regardless of sensitivity!
IME, they (planers) like and appreciate current and will respond in scale to what the amp is capable of delivering aka itās not always about the watts.
Planars need power from lower impedances generally speaking. Audeze does some funky things where the LCD-24 I think have 200 ohm impedance which where a lot of amps can work well and deliver the power needed power them well. The LCD-X is up there with one the easiest to drive headphones out of the Audeze audiophile lineup with the easiest I think is the LCD4z.
I do know there are some Hifiman headphones that are planar that honestly, you should drive them with a speaker amp to get the headphones to perform adequately. My Abyss Diana Phiās need a bit of power to run well but not speaker amp levels, but more sane levels of power consumption is the Diana V2. It is true planar headphones do have lower impedance in general and for headphone amps it can be strenuous.
In general, planars need higher current amps and dynamics need more of a voltage swing on amps. Because of this, planars wonāt work on most OTL tube amplifiers and need either an impedance transformer or semiconductors to assist with current load.
