đŸ”¶ Audeze LCD-X

It probably sounds fantastic on the RNHP, @ 15 ohms

I actually really like it on the mz3 the most, but it does preform well on the rnhp

You mean it sounds good on a $3700 amp
?

The fact that it’s a tube is the more interesting part lol (well somewhat it’s complicated lol), I like it on the mz3 more than the niimbus or the ha300

That’s a sweet looking amp.

How’s the speaker amp/section? What can it power well?

It’s nice but you really need efficient speakers to take advantage of it, like very efficient lol.

Headphone wise it can mostly power whatever I throw at it aside from the headphones that need speaker amps

The LCD-X in that review is exceptionally bad with the dip.

I agree with a good deal of what he stated in the review regarding the LCD-X (I haven’t listened to the MX4 or GX).

He also stated that their could indeed be wide variances in FR. I feel fortunate that my early 2019 pair don’t display such wide swings in FR (at least not to my ears). They are recessed in the mids however, and that’s why I’ve been considering upgrading to the MX4’s.

Edit: I don’t feel that they exhibit a “plastic” sound.

I own a planar, aluminum/magnesium dynamic, and tpe dynamics.

Seconded. I don’t hear that plastic/cupping timbre. I have a pair purchased Feb 2020. Today I changed to the vegan pads from the leather ones and instantly I notice the mid range dip is less noticeable with a very pleasant timbre(almost lack there of honestly). I will state the headphones sound dark (my particular set) paired with the Airist R-2R + Monolith THX 887. Bifrost 2 + RNHP seemed make the presentation MUCH more enjoyable without using any EQ.

If you enjoy your LCD X, don’t let go to it. The variance in quality is just a little but when you get your hands on a good set, HOLD ON TO THEM.

Yeah, I don’t tend to sell things for upgrades. I’ll be keeping them for sure.

I have owned 3 Audeze LCD-XC, and all of them sound slightly different fro each other. First pair was a b-stock I got from Woo Audio. I technically ordered the music creators package, but got a standard edition b-stock instead with the suit case. Atleast that’s my theory as the wood cups had a couple of minor scratches/swirls on them. Midrange city is the way I would discribe them first pair. I ended up selling them, but the later regreted that decision, so I bouhgt my second pair. The second pair was an actual music creators package and had more of w-shaped sound signature, so I sold quickly afterwards. Fast forward to December 2019 I bought my third pair of LCD-XC(2019 version with maple wood cups) standard edition that got for a nice discount since music creators edition was sold out.The thirdpair was probably the most neutral sound pair of the three that I have tried. All three where tested with the same amp and dac.

Reading this, I can’t help wondering, if there is a deliberate sound difference between the standard edition and the creators edition?

I would just single it down to audeze batch variance, this is the case on most of their headphones

Isn’t that a big variance, going from a midrange focus to a W shape? After all it is not a cheap headphone, so I would like to know, it if is one or the other end of the spectrum I get.

No seriously, you can loose yourself in looking for lcd 2 versions and variations lol, they seriously have fairly noticeable variations. That being said I don’t think they are that extreme. The lcd xc did go through some more significant silent revisions over the years so that could be why there is a more noticeable difference between units

slightly w-shaped is more accurate looking back at it. Was noticeable that the midbass lower/midrange and lower treble/upper midrange had some recession. The pair I have now do have the same peaks, and dips it seems, just slightly less in terms of magnitude.

Ordered this little guy for my X’s. I figured when I do replace them, my son can use them as a gaming headset. It’s on sale as well.

Smartest guy I ever knew did this with homes. Instead of selling and upgrading to a new home, he would buy well beneath his means, save for the next down-payment and then buy the next and rent the old one out. Now, after 15 years of this he has half a dozen rental properties paying him monthly.

Of course this is in Bakersfield where one can manage to save a down-payment without selling a kidney and their immortal soul.

It’s one of the most scalable wealth-building models.

It’s not so much about where you do this, but more so about actually doing it. :+1:t4:
