I think AKGās big plan was to destroy the M40X with the K361 and the M50X with the K371 and honestly they did, any person that knows their shit about audio will most likely agree
Well actually I think in some monitoring cases the m50x might be more helpful to the person using it. I donāt think they destroyed them or anything, but I do think they are great products. I think they just wanted some of that studio monitoring market share back
M50X can be more helpful for monitoring cuz they enhance details, thats true
But for music listening K371 all the way
One huge thing that frequency graphsdont tell you is presentation and what I will describe the attitude of the headphone. some headphones can measure super similarly but wont sound the same cause one could present the sound more agressively and spitting at you while the other can deliver the same sound nicer and in a more laid back fashion .
Are you aware of the problems that measurement rigs have with such high frequencies? So far as I know even Oratory1990ās state of the art rig with anatomically correct ear canals canāt be trusted over 10 kHz. Let alone Rtingsā or InnerFi. And on top of that any ear canal simulation is going to differ from your own so your HRTF will almost certainly produce different results in the treble region than whatās measured.
Hmm, idk how true that is but I guess it could be a possibility, maybe the soundstage presentation makes that seem like it
Rtings have a really expensive HATS and from my experience their measurements represent what I hear in real life, altho over 10k is a weird region for measurements Iāll give you that
itās exactly it . how sounds are presented to you are one of the biggest factors in a headphone that measurements dont tell you. and is the slightly bigger player in what I dub the attitude or personality of the headphone the other is tuningā¦
Interesting, well thatās the reason one shouldnāt only buy headphones based on measurements alone but also what people think cuz measurements donāt tell you everything
Is it concerning that I can tie each of my headphones and like humanise them with personalities?
Uuuh jokingly Iād say yes but nah I can see that xD
exactly. I like using frequency respose graphs to see what the general sound sig isā¦ to see what the manufaturer was going for.
i actually never hated the ones i gotā¦ i thought maybe it wasnāt bright enough for my taste but i am not used to even close to hifi headphones (like before this my only headphones were like 20 bucks or the sony 7506ās which are very very similar)ā¦ the major problem i had with them is that it didnāt feel as punchy as even just some super cheap skullcandy earbudsā¦ they are pretty decent personally but i think the major issue is over hype
I thought that my m50s were the best thing ever, coming from the Bose soundtouch (before my higher fidelity days. Now realizing that that Bose, although easy to listen to, just meh. However, after moving up to a lot higher quality (and price) headphones, I tried my m50s again after years and there were definitely not what I remember. Plus the pads were disintegrating after sitting in my closet for a year or so. Long story short they are now my brothers.
Point being, they can be an amazing set depending on what youāre coming from if youāre looking for something tjat can help you pick out all the details on music, as they are very revealing, but I felt, after going back that they can be harsh. Havenāt heard the m40s but Iāve heard a huge number of people that prefer the m40s over the m50s. Iād still like to hear both of them side by side.
i mean if you arenāt used to higher fidelity headphones they are pretty fineā¦
i mean again i was used to skullcandy earbuds, gaming headsets, and 7506s, and it was pretty niceā¦ though i didnāt like that after they burnt in all the bass and energy just flows away
Exactly. I went from skull candy and even two hundred dollar Bose headphones and found the m50xs amazing when I first got them. So Iād say they are good for introducing people into higher end audio. But as most people say, the m40s may be better all rounders. I just wouldnāt know from experience with the m40
Plus you save 50 bucks haha.
They really arent as bad as many people make it out to be they have an audience and purpose for a reason the pricing for them to me just tends to be too high regardless of the " best value Headphone" title it used to be given.
Not they are not bad at all. But Indknt think that they are as musical as some other headphones and can be fatiguing for longer sessions I feel. I think massdrop especially messed up that high value market haha. But surprisingly they donāt have many or any closed backs in that price range. Maybe the meze 99s. And while I find them to be enjoyable in their own way, they donāt have near the accuracy as the m50s with all that midbass. They are my in bed smooth listening at lower volume headphones haha. Plus they are 200 instead of 150.
