I almost had a scare at first. I thought there was a channel imbalance but after a bit the center image went back to where it should be.
Bass: Really powerful. Not as much as argons but these are less boomy. Mids: These are actually pretty mid forward. similar to the KPH30i Treble: A little bit sharp but also smooth. Kinda similar to the dt880 600ohm but not as revealing with lower quality recordings.
So far I really like the way they sound and it can only get better from here.
Possible endgame for me unless I land a really good deal on th900mk2.
Oh followup on gaming, I think the issue I had was I needed to set the eq differently in the latest COD. I was having problem hearing steps etc. even though the imaging was spot on. By changing the in game eq I solded that and these are popping I messed with some pads more today and I can safely reccomend people to stay away from shure 1840 pads, did not sound right to me. LOL LCD pads are super comfy but loose the bass rumble etc. I tried with dekoni velours.
Actually it sounded best to me with the home theater eq preset, lol kinda funny to me since they tuned the headphones to sound like speakers. I think just normal boost was really close so kinda a toss up on that as well.
So Iām still loving these more and more every time I listen to them. So much fun depth to the sound and the imaging is head and shoulders above any other headphones Iāve had. I havenāt owned a ton, but still itās great! Iāve been using them at work with no problems as long as I keep them at a fairly low volume, so I think they will remain my work headphones for the time being.
My only complaint so far has been the much maligned cable. So Iām considering making the upgrade. I already purchased a Liquid Spark for my desktop amp and I plan on getting the BTR5 for my portable setup in the near future. So my cable needs to serve both purposes. Iām looking at the Periapt type 2 cables which I believe are balanced. (please correct me if Iām wrong) I think I want to get it terminated in a 3.5mm since I already have the 3.5mm adapter that ships with the NH to use with my Liquid Spark. Then I would just need to get a 2.5mm male to 3.5mm female balanced adapter to use with my BTR5 when I get it. I found this one that looks promising. Would this setup work? Is there any problems using a balanced cable with an unbalanced source? I havenāt ever dealt with balanced so Iām trying to sort this all out before I start making purchases. Thanks!
But isnāt the output on the LS 1/4"? I think I would need to buy a 1/4" male unbalanced to 2.5mm female balanced adapter like this one for my desktop setup and that way I wouldnāt need to use an adapter for my BTR5 setup because the cable would already be terminated in 2.5mm. Either way Iām buying at least one adapter. No real way around it.
I finally tried these via tube amp and i think i like them even more than i already do if thatās possible. I donāt understand how or why so many folks dislike theseā¦i mean i know itās all personal preference but some people really dis these so bad yet they sound so damned good to me. I just guess i have plebeian earsā¦
Alright so Iāve had these for a week now, probably around ~40 hours put into them. I can say that I like these quite a bit more than any other headphone I own at the moment and these havenāt been unplugged since Iāve got them. The 150 hour wear in phase seems a little bogus, but I do think these have opened up a little bit since day 1 I guess? Sound signature seems to be pretty much the same as day 1 though, but idk maybe itās just me. Let me know if any of you think it sounds different from day 1 (if you can remember lol).
The imaging on these things is so ridiculously good I actually have taken it off of one side of my head to make sure that it wasnāt imbalanced lol. Itās so ridiculous on some songs, might check back in later when I remember to link a few. Bass is nearly perfect with these for what I listen to; quite punchy, no distortion from what I can tell, not overwhelming or muddy. Soundstage is really great too. Mids are enjoyable and I donāt think the treble is too bright, but I donāt think Iām particularly treble sensitive to begin with.
Yeah, these things just kick ass. Super fucking fun to listen to, itās really hard to want to pick up my Sennheisers unless I really want to focus in on something specific. These are more detailed than I thought they would be, and for personal enjoyment these just easily take the cake for me. For 200 dollars this was a steal.
Thanks for reading, cheers to a new member of the Nighthawk Gang!
