šŸ”¶ Audioquest NightHawk

yeah definitely excited to spend some time with them and try the other pads as well. For me all the gear I end up keeping there is just something about it that makes really appreciate it. For instance Iā€™m listening to my IT03ā€™s at work right now and when I hear the bass thump it reminds me how much i like them. Hopefully Iā€™ll find that something with an extended session with the nighthawks. What is your other Keeper?

haha totally understand. I loved my 6XXā€™s and was the first piece i thought I would never sell. Then a few weeks later a pair of 660s went up for super cheap. was mostly just curious how much an ā€œupgradeā€ it was and if I could go back Iā€™d probably just stick with the 6XX and save money. But I do think I will always have something from the 600 family in my collection.

Iā€™m always amazed by people who donā€™t find it, maybe ā€œoffensiveā€ is the wrong word but weird lol with first impressions anyways

Well I will say I only spent about 20 minutes with them so far. I also tend to adjust pretty slowly to new sounds even on gear I love. The only piece I have that wowā€™d me on the first listen was my purplehearts and that is entirely due to the bass impact.

The hawks can get kinda near the bass performance of the ph with a powerful amp, suede pads, and a bit of eq

would you consider the el amp II a powerful amp? I donā€™t necessarily need/want them to be bass canons although i would be lying to say I didnā€™t love a good bass response. Stock with the pleather pads I found the bass to be acceptable, but couldnā€™t hurt to have more. I donā€™t mess too much with eq but that is entirely due to not knowing what Iā€™m doing

Oh yeah you are just fine, thatā€™s a sweet amp. Also do try out the suede, itā€™s a pretty different experience imo (personally I much prefer the suede)

Hi all.
Been using my hawks for a couple days now and have fallen in love with the sound signature.
The bass satisfies me and the treble doesnā€™t send daggers into my ear drums like a lot of headphones; No harsh sibilance. Itā€™s great.

The only qualm I have is that, since Iā€™m new to hifi, I think I donā€™t prefer suspension straps in my headphones. I find that I am not able to move my head around without it adjusting and bringing them up on my head, and I tend to like more of a clamping force. I tried the 58x Jubilees and liked the sound okay (not nearly as good as the hawks) but they were much too small for my giant ass head.

Does anyone have any recommendation for fixes? Does a headphone exist that has a comparable sound to the nighthawk carbons but doesnā€™t use a suspension strap? (my budget is $400)

Thanks

Iā€™d suggest finding a way to secure the strap where you need it so it is not longer able to adjust

Probably not lol

You could try and give more strength by grabbing something that wrapped around the headband (check out the focal clear thread to see what I am talking about). That way it will cause the headband to be more taught and more secure I would think
